New Members! Here is a list of Tips and Tricks I thought might be useful for you! Mostly this is a list of things I wish I'd known when I started FR! Some other helpful people have chimed in in the comments so I'm adding their tips in as well in hopes to help you the most! Ask any questions and enjoy!
1. If you try to type a heart with "less than three", it cuts your message off and everything after the less-than-three-heart will be gone. Just a quirk of Flight Rising's forums.
2. If you want to link to a forum thread you'd like to keep track of, go to ******* or ****** and shorten the url. For some reason that will make you able to keep the URL working whereas using the one from the site may lose the thread eventually. I have NO idea why, but it's common practice here for people to use ******* or ****** to link you to forum threads, raffles, giveaways, events, hatcheries etc. If you click on a button in someone's signature and it redirects you to a warning that this link leaves the site, 99% chance it's just a redirect to a forum thread through ******* or ******. I can't promise no one has ever done anything malicious ever, but I've never once see it in my entire time here. People just have to use the URL shorteners to make links that stick with us. Don't be alarmed!
3. If you want to share a dragon in a thread like this:
Go to your dragon's page:
Click the Generate URL button, Copy this text:
Then paste it into the thread where you want the dragon's image to appear. ^^ Simple!
4. Fyi, this forum uses BBC code. So you use tags with square brackets.
5. If you want to insert an image, you need it to be less than 500 pixels wide for the whole thing to show up on the page properly. If your image is larger than that, best to link to it with a thumbnail.
6. The Forum signature area will let you use an image up to about 70 px tall so when you make a button for your hatchery or a banner for a raffle, keep that in mind. 70x500x seems to be your limit.
7. If you can't trade a dragon through crossroads and they have no familiar or apparel on to stop them, make sure they're not still caretaking a nest in the Nesting Grounds. This goes for trying to put them up for Auction too. I always remember to remove familiars and apparel when posting a dragon for auctions, but it seems I never remember that I can't if they have a nest that isn't hatched yet.
8. Every day you want to Gather Items, go to the Trading Post and hit Pinkerton's for your free item, Bond your familiars in your lair by pressing the red heart on each one, and incubate any eggs and feed your dragons to keep them above 80% total lair energy. If you keep your lair above 80% for 3 days straight, you start getting bonuses! And if you keep it that way, you KEEP your bonuses ^^
9. Gems are cash-store currency. You can get them through play in a limited degree, trade for them with other players or buy them with real money. They can get you items from the Gem Marketplace that you can't get with treasure unless you buy it from a player (usually for more treasure than it's worth in gems).
10. Your baby dragons grow up when they are 6 days old. On the 5th rollover, they will be adults after. Their images stay babies some times. You can click the little curly arrow in the top=right of their icon to make them grow up. You can also link them to a friend and when they view them, the system will grow them up automatically.
11. Always check the forums! This site has an awesome community! If you need something, you can probably find it here whether it's a dream dragon, a mate for your favorite dragon, more food at a good price, help with a problem, or just a need for fun and socialization. :)
12. In fact, always check your flight's secret sub-forum! This is the only place to find out about your Flight's special community, their plans, their ideas, their helpful bonuses (like lair expansion funds threads and flight-only dragon give-aways), as well as plans for dominance and holidays! This is the most important part of your Flight aside from eye colors! :)
13. The flight you choose will decide the eye color of any dragon born in your nests:
It also decides which deity you Exalt to, which community you share a secret sub-forum with, which images outline your lair, and which holiday you'll have a hand in running if you choose rather than just participating in. :)
14. Exalting is an HONOR and a GLORY to your dragon! You are NOT killing your dragon when you exalt. Exalting is a GOOD thing. Game-mechanics wise, it helps keep too many dragons from flooding the site when we don't get color combinations we actually want to keep. Story wise, it's a great honor! Don't feel bad!
15. Please consider NEVER exalting a dragon without naming it! Please! It's considered very rude by many players to exalt an unnamed dragon because then we can never go back and give them a name. If you bought the dragon from someone, their breeding dragons will always have an offspring listed as "unnamed" which makes some people very sad.
16. If you want to make money from exalting, let the dragon grow up first, then take them to the coliseum and get them a few levels. A hatchling gets very little treasure from exalting. A level 6 dragon gets you like 10k. :)
17. On the front page of the site, there's a list of three features each day that give bonuses for exalting. A color, a gene and a breed. If you have a dragon you're considering exalting and it matches any of these bonuses, go exalt today for a bonus of 1250 or 2500 treasure depending on which bonus it is! :) (You can get this bonus for each dragon you exalt with a featured trait that day.) Looks like this:
18. If you see battles stones that promise a stat increase (Berserker, Scholar, Fragments) in the auction house or the marketplace, only buy them if Crim wants them for more than the particular fragment is selling for at the time.
These stones are currently bugged so that they don't actually give your dragon the promised stat bonus even though they look like they do, and they are typically either more than or exactly hoard value. (Thanks for the tip @Doglover287915)
19. If you want to just browse other dragons to get a random idea of what other people have bred or how you could combine apparel, the BEST and EASIEST place to do so is in the Dragon Share forum! Go through threads there to see lots of dragons shared with different themes, some of which are just "my favorite" so you can use this as a gateway to find people who put a lot of effort into their dragons and from there, just browse their lairs. I often find a neat dragon on the Random Dragon on the front page too and it leads me to neat lairs. You can always click a person's name and go check their lair to see what kind of dragons they have. (Tip based on question from @Anya Good luck! )
20. Whenever you see an apparel item (except maybe in the coli) you can click on it to get a preview of how it looks on the different breeds and genders. (Thanks @wildcat)
21. In the AH clicking on a familiar's thumbnail image will pull up the full image for that familiar. (Thanks @wildcat)
22. Most items have a "sell" price in their tooltip. For items found in the treasure marketplace this "sell" price is 1/10th of their marketplace price, so you can compare prices right from the AH! (Thanks @wildcat)
23. If you try to breed your dragons and don't see one in the drop-down that you expected, they may be low on energy and need to be fed before they can breed.
24. Similarly, a dragon who has low energy will not be able to fight in the coliseum and his image will be red in the "Organize Party" window.
25. You can not breed a dragon with a dragon that shares a family member within 5 generations. FORTUNATELY all you new members don't have to STRUGGLE to find out whether two dragons can breed the old fashioned way because our lovely admins have just given us a wonderful, wonderful tool for checking two dragons' breeding compatibility whether you own them or not.
26. In fact, don't forget to check out the tools on the Scrying Workshop found below the Library Heading on the Nav bar on the left. It has three tools: Assay Bloodlines, Foresee Progeny, and Predict Morphology. These let you check for breeding compatibility, get previews of potential offspring between any two dragons on the site, and preview any combination of breed, gender, colors and genes to plan your dream dragon or just decide which gene you want to apply to a dragon you have.
27. You can only breed a male dragon and a female dragon, but you can use Foresee Progeny to *preview* the possibilities of any dragons, regardless of breed compatibility or gender combination. (For the many times I've found the perfect pair to breed and realized they were both girls... But at least one can dream! :) )
28. There is a feature below Library called Search. You can use this to search for other users by usernames, or click the Dragon Search button on that page to search for dragons by specifics such as breed, colors, genes and name. You can use this to hunt down dragons of color/gene combinations you want so you can message their owners to ask if you can buy them etc.
29. Also don't forget to fill in your Clan Profile! Under the CLAN heading, click Clan Profile, then on that page, click EDIT at the top to add whatever text you want. Many people include things like: What kinds of dragons they are on the lookout for, what kinds of friends they'd like to make, what their current goals are, what dragons they have for sale or a link to their hatchery thread, and anything else they would like to include on a message to random visitors. Click a few members' profiles to get some ideas for what you could include on yours.
30. There is a box on each dragon's page called Information which is below the Apparel and Familiars boxes. You can use it to keep information about your dragon whether you want to include their story or notes to yourself about genes you want for them, or a link to their breeding range with another dragon. :)
31. Speaking of which, one of the most important tools for FR Members: http://fr.fintastic.net/ You can use this to see what colors are possible between any pair of dragons. Use the "Generate URL" button to get a custom URL to link to that exact breeding range so you can show others what those two dragons are capable of creating, or so you can link it to yourself in the Dragon's Info for future reference:
32. Another Handy tool: http://amapaday.com/flightrising.html Will let you make easy buttons for your forum signature to show which dragons you have for Sale or Trade etc. Check it out!
33. Use the Crossroads under the "SHOP" heading to trade dragons whether for other dragons or for treasure and gems. If you are being given a dragon or are giving a dragon away for "free", 1 treasure is the standard price to place so that the trade will work. Unfortunately, we are not able to trade if we don't enter at least 1 treasure. But 1 treasure is not much so don't fret!
34. If you bond your familiars, you will win their trust. Each level of trust they gain will reward you with a treasure chest. When they reach the final level, "Awakened" they can't increase any further, but will still give you 50 treasure each day if you click bond.
35. You don't bond a specific familiar of a given type (Such as a specific Leafy Moth). If you have 3 Leafy Moths in your hoard, you don't have to keep track of which one you've been bonding to a dragon if you Remove that familiar from a dragon for any reason. Any Leafy Moth you put back with your dragon will retain the same level of Bonding you had when you unequipped that Leafy Moth. Likewise, if you sold all your Leafy Moths then bought a new one, you'd still have the same level you had before. You can't undo your bonding by accident!
And finally, Shadow flight rules. You know you want to come to the dark side. We have cookies.
Hope this helps! Welcome new players!
