Everything you need to know about bonding with your familiars.

THE SIMPLE STUFF
For newbies, here's some answers to a few questions I had starting out. If you have any other questions, let me know.
1. You can only bond with any given familiar once a day.
2. Your account is tied to how many times you've bonded with a familiar, as opposed to your dragon or the actual familiar item, so it's safe to move your familiars to and from your hoard without losing progress.
3. This also means that it doesn't matter if you've gotten your familiar from someone else that's already fully bonded with it, you'll always start at zero.
4. Once a given familiar is Awakened, it and any other familiar you acquire with the same name will stay that way forever.
5. All familiars, regardless of how valuable they are, give the same payout.
6. When you get rid of a given familiar, you lose your Bestiary entry on it. If you acquire one again, it'll pick up the bonding level where you left off.

LEVELS
(Number of days is the number of times you have to bond at a level to fill the bar. For example, Wary upgrades on the 5th day, so it takes 4 days to fill up the bar.)

Wary - 4 days, 15t per day, rusted chest "Your Familiar is wary towards you; it might take some doing to earn its trust."

Tolerant - 8 days, 20t per day, rusted chest "Your Familiar is tolerant of you, but it seems to be warming up slightly."

Relaxed - 12 days, 25t per day, rusted chest "Your Familiar is relaxed with you; you're getting along great!"

Inquisitive - 18 days, 30t per day, iron chest "Your Familiar is inquisitive and wants to learn more about your clan."

Companion - 22 days, 35t per day, iron chest "Your Familiar is a stalwart companion; you go everywhere together!"

Loyal - 25 days, 45t per day, gilded chest "Your Familiar is completely loyal; nothing is going to tear you two apart."

Awakened - Maxed out, 50t per day "Your Familiar has awakened its true potential and is aglow with enthusiasm."

TIPS AND TRICKS

-When you acquire familiars, buy in bulk for as long as possible. At first I went around with 100k and bought up as many unique familiars under 8k in the Auction House I could find. That way when they all level up at the same time, you have lots and lots of treasure to roll around in. It's especially delightful when you get up to the higher tiers. However, I also enjoy the odd familiars sprinkled in between my bulk buying so that I don't suffer from a chest drought for very long. It doesn't work as well after you've gotten all the 20k or less familiars, but it's still very rewarding while you're hunting for the expensive ones.

-Trying to eyeball the bar to decide how many days there are to your next chest? Well there's a better way! Right click on the bar tracking your progress, select "Copy image location" (or your browser's equivalent), and paste it anywhere. It should look something like this: "http://flightrising.com/image_generators/bondingbars.php?curr=7&high=8". "high=" is the maximum number of days in that bar, indicating what level you're on, and "curr=" tells you what day it's currently on. Pretty simple stuff.

@Petrazilla

This is a great guide!
I have a question, though--what do people do with their awakened familiars? If I sell mine, I lose the bestiary slot for them. But, even if I trade it, and use a "new" familiar of the same type, it still shows as awakened for that type. So, it seems I can either sell it and lose the slot status, or keep it and just fill up on familiars. Is that how it's supposed to work?

Thanks!

You can sell the familiar and lose the Bestiary entry on it (if you get the same type again, I believe you will have to start over the bonding process), or you can just unequip it from your dragon and store it in your hoard, in which case you will still keep the Bestiary entry. Or you can keep it equipped. I have currently more familiars than I have dragons, so I juggle a bit every day to get all the treasure.

There are currently quite a few threads in Suggestions attempting to make either giving up awakened familiars or keeping them more attractive to players, such as making the Bestiary entry permanent or better rewards for bonding with them at that point, respectively.

I hope this answered your questions.

@Lyssa @anue

I just sold off all my (awakened) Amaranth Moths and I lost the bestiary entry on it. When I bought it again, it showed up as awakened still in my bestiary. I personally just hoard hoard hoard (I'd be happy with five of everything, seriously), so I keep all of my awakened familiars in my hoard and the majority of my non-awakened familiars on my dragons. I try to make sure all of my (many) awakened familiars are clumped together at the top of the hoard so when I have to go switch out for my unawakened guys for daily bonding time they're all together and I don't have to play the guessing game.

Also, anue, bonding isn't for an individual familiar (we'll use Speedy here). If you bond with one Speedy, your whole account is bonding with all Speedys. So if you have a Speedy at Companion level, all Speedys you acquire (at that particular time) will be Companion for all dragons.

I didn't even know you lost the entry that way, thanks for the question!

@Petrazilla
Minor typo that is bugging me - you have the level between Inquisitive and Loyal written as "Champion" instead of "Companion". However, you have the right word in the description for it. :)

@RandyPandy Oh, oops, I have literally always read it as Champion that's a little odd, but it's fixed now. I guess I just get dyslexic moments sometimes. Thanks for pointing it out!

@petrazilla :
So I am curious. Does that mean that you can only get a gilded chest from one familiar then have to start over another familiar to earn up to the chest again?

@Dothraki Not 100% sure what exactly you're asking, but I'll cover my bases. You can get one gilded chest per familiar, but you can bond with more than one familiar at a time. There's over 180 different familiars now, (and new ones come out at the very least once a month) so there's lots of gilded chests to be had.

If you bond with, say, Luna Mith every day, you'll have a gilded chest in about three months. Then every Luna Mith you ever get afterward (and any extra copies you own already) are going to be on the "Awakened" level and won't spit out anymore chests.

If you buy 30 different familiars at the same time and bond with all of them every day (if you don't have 30 dragons, you can switch out the familiar 30 times a day on one dragon and all your bonding will still stick), in about three months you will get 30 gilded chests all at the same time.

I hope that answers your question.

Thank you!
Thank you!
In danger of failing in an epic and awesome manner. This may be a bad thing.
@Petrazilla
I have a question.
Say I have three Leafy Moths at wary and I equip them on different dragons. When I bond with one, does it automatically bond with the other two as well? As I level up the bonding, will I only get one treasure chest from each level or could I collect from all three?
