Let me be the first to say, welcome to the world of Flight Rising! Here you will find rare items, treasure, shiny things, beautiful dragons, wonderful people and tons of adventure! You can buy wonderful dragons, dress them up, give them pets and meet tons of awesome people and get involved in a colourful, active community.
Here, I will try to cover the basics of the site’s biggest feature, which is the dragons.
Well, lemme thiiiink.
You can dress them up with apparel, give them little friends called familiars, exalt them (send them to serve your Flight's god for a little bit of treasure in return), breed them or just stare at them and show them off. You must also care for your dragons by feeding them.
You obtain dragons by using the Crossroads to trade with other players, being given dragons by other people via Crossroads, buying them from the Auction House or breeding your own.
There are several dragon species on the site, all with varying tiers of rarity. Rarity only effects the breeding cooldown (how long you have to wait in between breeding) and how likely it is to have a hatchling of that species. For example, if I bred a rare dragon with a plentiful dragon, I would be nearly garunteed just plentiful dragons. But if I bred a limited dragon with a rare dragon, I’d have a pretty good chance at either. It is somewhat luck based, though. Breed dragons close in tier to each other! Rarity also effects price when someone sells a dragon, to an extent.
Plentiful:
Tundra, Mirror, Guardian and Fae
Common:
Spiral, Snapper, Pearlcatcher and Ridgeback.
Uncommon:
Skydancer.
Limited:
Imperial.
Rare:
Coatl and Wildclaw.
Apparel is just for fun and looks cool. You can buy it from the Auction House, find it from chests, the Coliseum or purchase it from the onsite marketplace. Some apparel is less expensive on the marketplace or the auction house. Check your prices! Apparel can be bought with treasure or gems. It can worn or sold and each dragon has their own unique look for the apparel they wear. Apparel does not add stats or effect breeding. It is simply there to look nice. Try to find matching apparel for your dragon!
Familiars are little pets you can obtain in the same ways as apparel. You can equip them, like apparel, from the dragons page. Familiars are fun to collect and that's not all. Go to each of your dragons that have familiars, and you can bond with them! Bonding gives out small increments of treasure each time, until at a certain day, the meter will fill up, and you will receive a chest. (open it, it has items and treasure in it) The minimum level a familiar can be is Wary, where it will give 15 treasure a day and the maximum level a familiar can be is Awakened, where it will give 50 treasure a day. Doesn't sound like much, but if you have a lot of familiars, you can make a small profit and get a bunch of chests!
Exalting is a big part of Flight Rising. When you exalt a dragon, it permanently goes away, to serve your Flight's god. However, the dragon will leave you an amount of treasure, depending on their level. The higher the level, the more treasure you get. (you level up in the Coliseum by battling monsters) Tip: exalting is good thing. It keeps the dragon market free of unwanted, under priced dragons. Exalting also ups your Flight’s Dominance. Dominance is tallied every Sunday, with the Flight that exalts the most dragons that week as the winner. The bonuses are a marketplace discount, one more gathering turn, higher stats in the Coliseum and some more treasure per day. EXALTING IS NOT A BAD THING. Also be sure to name a dragon if you exalt them and they are not yours. Exalting a dragon that is not yours as unnamed is quite the taboo here. Me, I never found it to be a big deal, but people consider it common courtesy. Be nice! Use that random generator!
Breeding is arguably the biggest part of the site. You can breed dragons to have children, then either sell, exalt or keep the children. Most people sell baby dragons after they hatch. Breeding is very complex and it would take me all day to explain it in depth, but I’ll try!
Baby dragons inherit colours and genes based on the parents. Dragons have what is called a “range”. This range is what colours a baby can inherit when they are born. For example, if I had two white/white dragons and bred them, the babies would be white/white. If I had a dragon who was, let’s say, blue/red and a dragon who was lemon/green, the range would be much bigger. Tighter ranges produce better dragons, if you ask me.
Baby dragons will also inherit things called genes. They make your dragon look pretty. If I bred a clown/eye spots dragon with a tiger/stripes dragon, I would have a chance at any of those genes. Some genes are rarer than others and have less chance to be inherited when paired with a dragon with more common genes. Match those genes up!
Eye colour is a big part of breeding. Eye colour will depend on where your dragons are born. If your dragons are born Arcane, they will have pink eyes. If your dragons are born Nature, they will have dark green eyes. Many people will lend out their dragons to people of other Flights to match eye colour to the dragon’s colours.
You also must feed your dragons. If you don't, their energy will drop and if too low, they will not be able to do certain things, like breed or fight. You feed them and keep their energy up by gathering food with the "Gather Items" button under the "Clan" menu on the left side of the interface. The food then goes to your hoard, and you convert it. Dragons all eat different things. For example, Tundras eat plants and Faes eat insects. Make sure you provide for everyone. I currently have a lot of dragons who eat seafood, so I have a lot of seafood points. If you keep your dragons well fed for three days and then continue to do so, you will receive bonuses! (treasure and a gem per day, five more gathering turns and fifteen percent more battle experience when you battle in the Coli)
Aaaaand those are the basics of dragons and what you can do with them. Hope I didn't make it too confusing! If you have any other questions, ask away!
And if you're still lost or I'm rambling and being confusing, check the link below.
