The original Breeding Rarity Findings thread by JessDwarf is wonderful, showing the possibilities of getting a certain gene or breed out of any particular combo. Unfortunately, the thread has sadly been abandoned (as JessDwarf doesn't appear to play anymore). I put together an updated guide here.

Instead of copying the data from the original thread, I did entirely new tests, using the Scrying Workshop's Forsee Progeny page (previous tests were with the breeding interface). I will, however, be copying the formatting and wording, as it's clear, easy to understand, and will make it easier to transition. This should be considered a continuation of the original post, not a replacement. All credit goes to JessDwarf. If they ever come back, I will happily hand over any of my data and let them continue their thread.

The information collected is on the frequency of gene and breed inheritance through each possible pairing and is presented in the format below:

Gene/breed #1 vs gene/breed #2: Number / Number – Percentage Gene/Breed

This is read as gene/breed #1 was tested against gene/breed #2, resulting in gene/breed #1 total occurrences / and gene/breed #2 total occurrences – meaning when breeding these two genes/breeds together, you have a percentage chance of getting one of the gene/breed, listing the rarer of the two tested genes or breeds.

Remember that depending on the total amount of trials for each experiment there is still an amount of experimental variance to the posted percentage, meaning that near-equal chances reported here are likely actually equal. Genes we can assume by this data to be on the same rarity tier include: Clown/Speckle/Tiger and Daub/Current/Eye Spots/Freckle/Stripes, and our collected Basic, Crystal, Iridescent, Shimmer, Ripple, Bar, and Seraph vs Treasure Gene totals use that rarity similarity to gain a better sense of the actual chance of inheritance when bred with any of these equal-rarity treasure genes.

Breeds and genes appear to operate on a tier system - the higher the tier, the less likely it will appear when bred against a lower tier. Breeds/genes on the same tier will have an equal chance to appear, and all breeds/genes on the same tier appear to have the same percentage chances against other tiers. (That is, a second tier clown gene has the same chance against a ripple gene as a stripes gene would have against a seraph gene.) The two following charts show this tier system, to the best of my knowledge:

wbHgWUE.png

cHpCtce.png

For the second chart, the number on the left in a cell is the chance of getting the tier on the left, while the number on the right is the chance of getting the tier on the top.

So if you want to compare stripes to seraph, you'd look up common on the left and uncommon on the top, and see you have a 75% chance of common (stripes) and a 25% chance of uncommon (seraph).

Glimmer, a tertiary gene, is out! It's a gem gene, and it's Rare, just like all the other gem genes. Thank you so, so much to everyone that submitted their tests - real life is kicking me in the teeth right now, and I just don't have time to do my own tests.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does red text mean?
Red-colored tests mark data either from the original thread or that is suspect or outdated in some way - they'll be replaced as soon as possible. Feel free to contribute!

Didn't Iridescent and Shimmer have a higher chance to show up against treasure genes/basic in the past?
They did! However, that was a bug - they were on the Limited tier instead of the Rare tier, where they belonged. The admins realized this when they added Crystal and Iridescent didn't have a 50/50 chance against it. (They should have just taken a look at either of these guides!) They fixed it at that time, and all three genes (and Facet!) are now properly Rare tier.

Are Ridgebacks and Pearlcatchers on the same rarity tier as Snappers and Spirals? The other two cost more!

Yes, they're all listed as Common breeds in the encyclopedia. Snappers and Spirals were Kickstarter stretch goals - that's likely why they cost a bit more. You can see from the following tests that all appear to have an approximately 50% chance against each other.

Ridgeback vs Snapper: 47/53 - 47% Ridgeback
Ridgeback vs Spiral: 50/50 - 50% Spiral
Pearlcatcher vs Snapper: 52/48 - 48% Snapper
Pearlcatcher vs Spiral: 56/44 - 44% Spiral
Pearlcatcher & Ridgeback vs Snapper & Spiral: 205/195 - 49% Snapper & Spiral

What about Wildclaws and Coatls?

Yes, the testing shows these are equal as well. Additionally, they are actually the same price when the scrolls are in the gem marketplace - 2000 gems.

Coatl vs Wildclaw: 53/47 - 47% Wildclaw

Nocturnes and Imperials?

Yes, again. With all this data, we can assume that all breeds on the same tier will have a 50/50 chance.

Imperial vs Nocturne: 47/53 - 47% Imperial

Do you want more data?

Sure! I'm only looking for it in groups of 100, though. That will allow for some nice even numbers. I'd especially be interested in help once new genes/breeds come out. It'd be appreciated if you'd focus on either things that aren't updated from the original post yet (all the numbers in red) or things that have very few results (such as rare breed tests). We don't really need more eye spots versus stripes tests, for instance!

What assumptions have you used in your testing?

I've assumed that the Forsee Progeny tool in the Scrying Workshop uses the same algorithms and random chance as when a dragon is hatched. All signs point to this being true, but we can't know for 100% certainty until we hear it from a staff member.

Again, thanks to JessDwarf for the wording of the majority of the above FAQ.

Feel free to let me know if you want on this list! I'll send you a ping whenever we figure out where a new gene/breed stands on the rarity tier. If you'd like to be pinged once I finish the 1000 tests for a new gene, let me know, and I'll put you on a second list.

@Kiena Thank you very much for making this new thread, and thank you for the extensive Ripple and Current tests! I will update my Hatchling Probability Calculator with the new data and keep an eye on this thread for updates now.

@Runo - Awesome! I can ping you when new breeds/genes are figured out, if you'd like. Not the red data (unless you want) - that's probably going to match exactly, the other stuff has - but for brand new things, when they come out.

@Kiena Thanks, a ping for new stuff would be awesome. I'll probably keep an eye on this thread anyway, but that would make it easier.
