Genes are only inherited from the mother and father (Flight Rising does not utilize a Mendel Inheritance Model), so even if there are distinctive genes in the grandparents or great-grandparents, they will not factor into the current generation you are working on breeding.
^ From the Encyclopedia articles on Genes.
That suggests that they probably at least thought about it at some point, but decided not to go with the model.
Being a huge biology nerd myself, with a large fascination in genetics and inheritance (to the point where I've mapped out entire gene charts for my OCs based on what could be inherited through the Mendel model), I would've enjoyed a Mendel model here had it been implemented from the start.
But right now, I believe the site has gone too far to abruptly change the inheritance model.

I find these comments interesting as most of these comments suggest that changing the system would be a hindrance. Personally I'd find it fun to have that extra element of variation to see what would hatch next.
However I am the weird person who is breeding out a clan to look at inheritance and variation which is likely a view in the minority.
Thanks for commenting guys, sorry for geeking this space up.

Tbh I support because I think it would give breeding a new challenge (and also I think it sounds like fun).

I'm going to say no support, primarily because its a bit too late to change the system now. People have already dumped tons of treasure and gems into some of their pairs, they probably don't want their tight pairs to suddenly throw other breeds or genes. Aside, how would breed-changes and scrolled genes be accounted for? Would they completely overwrite the previous genes (making the changed dragon's parents not matter), or simply add one more possible gene for the offspring? Would the parents' genes have more or less weight than the individual? (ie. if a Wildclaw pair with Shimmer's four parents had Eyespots and Freckle, would the offspring most often be born with Shimmer like their parents, or the Freckle or Eyespots like their grandparents?)

It is regarded as unwise to harvest claws of a kamaitachi. These weasels travel in family units, and the survivors are known to hunt collectors down.

I would support this if the site was still in its infancy. People have paid money and put a lot of time to produce the offspring with traits they want. It wouldn't be right to just throw it in peoples faces.
However, if there was a toggable option or a super expensive gem item that you'd have to pay to make both parents have that variation for just that one nest, I think that'd be cool

I agree with the others. I love this model on other sites, but it's too late to adopt that here... and the simplicity of it is kinda nice as well :) I know exactly how to get tiger or iri should I wish those particular genes ^.^
