TOPIC | Exalting unnamed

I think you should put something in that forces players to name dragons before they're exalted. Personally, I just find it annoying to go look at my dragon's lineage records and see three or four (or more) 'unnamed' in the list, and then find out, when I check out of curiousity, that they've been exalted. But I don't want to take away the choice of an actually interested future owner by giving them a name of my choosing. Exalting them without bothering to give them a name just seems lazy, considering that you have a namer right there, and, since in-game, exalting is supposed to be an honour (Yes, I know the real reason) it seems kind of disrespectful.

This is a hot button for many players that has been suggested numerous times before. You may get some sharp backlash.

Why not do a Google search and find the many threads that have already discussed this issue to death and back?

I, personally, think the best solution is already being worked on by the staff. They're making it so people can hide offspring on their dragons' lineages. That's the best compromise, and it can extend beyond unnamed exalteds to unnamed keepers, "dumb" names, stream-lined lists, "oops" babies etc.

Pings are disabled.

If writers are supposed to "show not tell," why are we called "storytellers" and not "storyshow-ers"?
Ah, I'm not on here much, so I didn't realise that. Though, that's not really much of a compromise in my book, since I still know they're there, which is my issue. What would be a real fix would be to assign each dragon a random name at birth, instead of the standard unnamed, and then allow players to change it once, if they chose. Not sure how much more programming that would take, though.

Yeah. There's plenty of perfectly valid reasons why someone would exalt an unnamed dragons. Role play reasons is one of the biggest.

Besides, like gemajgall mentioned, the staff is already changing the offspring list. It just has some issues right now before it can be updated.

As gemajgall said, this is an often-repeated subject that has been hotly debated in the past and (as thedemonsurfer demonstrated) many people aren't interested in listing their arguments yet again.

What next? "Force people to be unable to breed change Imperials to anything else. Imperials are a retired breed and it annoys me when I check my lineage and someone breed changed my beautiful Imp baby that I sold them into a fae." Sound silly? So does forcing other people to name dragons that they gave you money for. They don't tell you what to do with your money, don't tell them what to do with their dragons.
But I don't want to take away the choice of an actually interested future owner by giving them a name of my choosing.
This is not an issue that should worry you. Renaming scrolls are 6kT. Polls have shown that the majority of the userbase (that visits FRD, anyway) doesn't care if the dragon is named or not. Links to the previous polls are in the OP of that linked thread. I think people who don't name their dragons before selling them, and then turn around and complain when the user who paid their money for the dragon does something they don't like, even though it isn't their dragon, lazy and ridiculous. You could solve the issue you have with Unnamed exalts by naming them before selling them. If users want to exalt unnamed for story/RP reasons, tracking reasons, or just because they didn't feel like it, that is their right. They gave you money in exchange for the dragon. You walked away with that money knowing that you didn't have any more say in it. As gemajgall has already stated, there is already a feature in progress to hide exalted dragons from your progeny lists. This, I think, is the best option. Users who don't like unnamed exalts or dragons exalted with unsavory names don't have to see them. Users who exalt unnamed for whatever reason they choose to do so can still play the game how they enjoy. Win/win.

Support for a random name being generated upon exalt. Next best thing as said, hideing 'lings from genealogy lists.

I still don't and probably never will understand the point of using RP's as some sort of "valid excuse" for keeping "Unnamed" dragons from being exalted.
