TOPIC | Less sexualized familiars
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 ... 26 27
I noticed a trend in the humanoid familiars that's been bothering a bit. A lot of the older female familiars have little, if any emphasis placed on traditionally sexy areas like the breasts, and those that wear clothing have clothing that falls naturally and isn't vacuum sealed to their body. Some of the newer familiars, however, either have clothing that is very closely molded to their body (the centaur), or a well defined crotch even though they don't have legs. This is especially jarring because the same thing doesn't hold true for their male counterparts. Even minor changes would fix this problem. I am not suggesting that the old art be changed (I know it would create drama), just that this be born in mind when creating new familiars. Since there appears to be some misunderstanding: -I'm okay with humanoid familiars -I'm not anti-boobs and this isn't about breast size -I'm okay with some of the familiars being naked, nowhere am I suggesting that they wear more clothing, just that things are drawn slightly differently

I am not suggesting that the old art be changed (I know it would create drama), just that this be born in mind when creating new familiars.

Since there appears to be some misunderstanding:

No support. I love humanoid familiars. I'd love to see more! Gorgons, fairies, satyrs, nekomata, minotaurs, sphinxes, dwarves, gnomes, naiads, werewolves, vampires, pixies, nixies, brownies, angels, demons, elves, arachnea--any! Yeah, I know we won't get -all- of them, but I'd love to see more.

(Not that I don't want FR to make animalistic familiars, because I like them too.)

If writers are supposed to "show not tell," why are we called "storytellers" and not "storyshow-ers"?

Centaurs that you like (aka dunhoofs) = ok

'fish people' and 'bird people' = not ok?

No support. I like the new familiars.

No support, there is nothing sexualized about these familiars (especially the harpy you listed). They simply look anthromorphic with realistic human features. And the centaur is wear full armor (unlike what you'd see in comics and games, now THAT'S over-doing it). The maren females (like the males), are essentially naked really, but being humanoid means they will look SOMETHING like a real human male or female. Likely a streamlined or fit human. I just do not see where you have issue with this.

No support. They're not sexual fantasies or designed for the male gaze at all. They could have easily made it so, but they're fully covered and it makes no sense to me. Many females have breasts, there's nothing wrong with female humanoids having them. They're completely covered and not exposed.

I honestly don't even know why you included the new harpy in there since there's no chest or crotch definement to determine its gender.

I'm not opposed to humanoid familiars, I'm opposed to humanoid familiars with a lot of emphasis on the breasts and crotch areas when they don't even have legs.

@scarnova I included the new harpy because it has boobs. Never mind, removed the harpy.

Edit: Fixed wording

I'm confused as to how that last one is sexualized. I get clearer indication of gender from the dryads than I do from the Windcarve and Mesacliff harpies.

Also, as someone who is attracted to males, I would absolutely lick the Maren Warrior like a chocolate bar. I agree the female Maren look a bit much like they have legs and crotches, but I think I'd rather see the male Maren stepped up to meet that level of sexualization than see the females toned down.

No support. The dunhoof you listed as acceptable has breasts as well, and they're the same size as the archer, so I'm not sure what the criteria here is. None of these have unrealistic breast sizes either.
