TOPIC | Blocked users can't post in your threads

When I block someone, I don't want to interact with them anymore - and that includes in threads I start. I know the forums are public, but it's nice to have a few places to myself where I don't have to worry about interacting with people I dislike. That being said, people in the thread have brought up some good points about this feature being abused. So I'm modifying the suggestion slightly. Forums • Blocked users shouldn't be able to reply in all sales/trading forums • Blocked users should still be able to reply in suggestions and bug reports • I have mixed feelings about the other forums Blocked Posts People presented two alternatives I like. • A "read this post" toggle on blocked posts so you can check what the person has to say without unblocking them. • Hiding blocked posts altogether so it looks like that person never posted to begin with, just like deleted posts Misc • Having different block levels and/or better individual control over how blocking works would be nice The Current System Everything I know about the current system! Blocked users can not: • Send you messages • Ping you in forum threads (if you get a notification, it's a bug) • Send you trade requests • Post on your profile Blocked users can: • Post in threads you start (confirmed for suggestions forum, unknown for other forums) Additional information: • In the forums, all of their posts will be replaced with
[i]You have blocked this user; their post is being hidden. @Kuhli Yes, unfortunately. :( I don't mind people disagreeing with me, but leaving comments on my userpage took it a step to far.

There was discussion in this forum months back about what blocked users can and can't do. Nothing ever came of it, but it was a good discussion. Can a blocked user buy your dragons? Post on your threads? PM you? Leave a comment on your profile? Etc.

In my shoes, I want nothing to do with a blocked user, and I want him/her to have nothing to do with me. I'd prefer it if s/he didn't even exist in my tiny virtual FR world.

My favorite solution was a series of tiered blocks. Like block users level 1, they can't interact with you on the forums. Level 2 adds in PMs and even viewing your profile. And level 3 they can't buy or sell involving you. (I believe that's how it went. It was a while back, so my memory is a bit rough).

In case people are curious about the buying/selling dragons part. There was concern that a blocked user would buy your dragons, name them something obnoxious, and exalt them. On the other side of the coin, users didn't want to financially support someone they blocked.

Pings are disabled.

If writers are supposed to "show not tell," why are we called "storytellers" and not "storyshow-ers"?
100% support.
This should have been implemented from the get-go tbh.
(I also like the tiered blocks idea gemajgall mentioned!)

I would very much like if blocks worked both ways. If I block someone, it's because I don't want to interact with them. I don't want to be told "well you blocked this person but they still said something BUT NOW YOURE NOT ALLOWED TO SEE IT SO YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY MAY HAVE JUST SAID ABOUT YOU LOL"

(Thank goodness I took a screenshot first!) I'm fairly certain they can't PM me, leave a new comment, or ping me. (It'll look like I was pinged, but I won't receive a notification.) They can still post in my thread though, and that's a problem.
I would very much like if blocks worked both ways. But what did they saaaaay.

No support. It stifles the discussion for each thread, and any abusive comments can be reported. It impacts non-involved parties, which is equivalent to collateral damage.

I would argue that blocking a set of people from one's threads is more than just defensive: it starts becoming retributive. Blocking should be defensive, only.

Retributive tactics should be discouraged, in the interests of player unity, cohesion, and cooperation.

i would support a filter over a banned players post but nothing more

aka
person on your banned list post in your created topic or a topic you are involved in,
the post would show up at.
-you have blocked this player "CLICK" to view-

any thing different than this is a no support, an individual may have blocked a player but this shuts them out of the community if you block them outa a thread.
