Lasgalen
Energetic - Fun - Humorous
Celestial Runner Founder - Mate to Galanta - Brother to Anduin and Eldamar
Familiar: Stryker, the Colorburst Buttersnake

“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Return of the King

Many Dragons have a philosophy in life, one that is reflected in what they do and how they act. In Lasgalen’s case that philosophy is most easily summed up in one word, fun. Nearly every decision he makes, right down to his favorite sorts of Familiars and what he wears, are based on having fun, which means that at times he’s a bit of a prankster. Of course his jokes are never hurtful and are always in good fun since it’s not just about his having fun, but those around him as well. This likely stems from his position as the middle child in his family, something that never bothered him that much, though it meant that he had to work extra hard to stand out. It also goes a long way toward explaining his fashion sense, which is best described as eclectic, or perhaps eccentric. The one aspect that’s consistent, if it can be called that, is that he likes clothing and trinkets that match his eyes. Honestly, if given the chance he’s fine with letting his energetic and outgoing personality, combined with his fashion sense be what people recognize him for as he is content to let his sister be the leader and leave matters of diplomacy up to his brother. If the situation calls for it he is a fairly good public speaker, more than capable of rallying a crowd around him, though he’d prefer to leave that sort of thing to others. That way he has time to to focus on important things, like his family, his magic, and Buttersnakes, which are easily his favorite Familiar ever.

In keeping with his eccentric nature, his Familiars must be as interesting and unique as he is. His favorite Familiars are, of course, Buttersnakes, which encompass his love of both reptiles and creepy-crawly critters in all of the best ways. The reactions received from Dragons who don’t understand the true awesomeness of Buttersnakes, with their long sinuous bodies, flamboyantly colored wings and adorable little wiggly arms only adds to the fun of it. It amazes him that some Dragons would go so far as to be grossed out by Buttersnakes, and he gets great pleasure from their reactions when he introduces them to Stryker, his Colorburst Buttersnake Familiar. Unoriginal name aside, Stryker is as much a character as Lasgalen. The first thing that most individuals will notice about Stryker, aside from his magnificent markings and coloration, is his voice. There’s something wrong with it and the most he can manage are small, raspy noises that only Lasgalen can understand as words, though Lasgalen understands quite well and is more than happy to translate when the need arises. When Stryker isn’t coiled loosely around Lasgalen’s neck and watching him work, he’s helping with pranks, finding special amusement in how Galanta, Lasgalen’s mate tries to cope with his antics.

Galanta is the center of the universe as far as Lasgalen is concerned, in fact he calls her his ‘little universe’ or sometimes his ‘little galaxy’ because of how dazzlingly beautiful she is, and she has been instrumental in his maturing. While still very much a joker by nature, something that will never change, he keeps his priorities straight and wants nothing more than to watch his many children grow and achieve greatness, just like their parents. Even Stryker takes a role in raising the family, coiling around the couple’s nest to act as a guard for their eggs, not that his small size make him that effective a protector, especially since, like Lasgalen, he’s more of a joker than a fighter. Stryker is fully aware that family is what matters to Lasgalen, especially his children, his ‘shooting stars’ as he calls them, and on occasion ‘comets’ just to mix things up. Thanks to Stryker several of them have inherited Lasgalen’s love of strange and slithery creatures, making their father very proud. It’s not just his mate and children that he focuses on though, as he’s grown up he’s grown closer with the rest of his family. He tries to spend more time with his siblings so that his children may learn from their aunt and uncle, as well as his parents, especially his father so that his children will have a more well-rounded magical education that he could provide.

Like his father Lasgalen is an adept at word magic, capable of managing both written and verbal spells with relative ease. Circle magic is where he truly excels though, in part due to natural aptitude and in part because it doesn’t require him to memorize long, elaborate incantations, something that, while he is capable of, he lacks the patience to do. His skill with word magic means that he has is easily able to create trinkets with power-imbued runes, having worked together with his brother to construct his favorite talisman. Once he is older he has plans to get runic tattoos, much like those his father wears, though he has put it off for quite some time considering that now he technically is older. It likely stems from his desire to make sure that the arcane markings are as individual as possible to best suit his sense of style. Of course not all of his magic is used to serious ends, he is a prankster after all. One of his favorite little tricks is to make trap circles to use in pranks. It’s something he’s very creative with and something that he has used to get his children interested in magic from a very early age since many of his little tricks are made with simplicity in mind, making replicating them an attainable goal for a very young dragon interested in magic.

Stargazer
Love beyond measure.
JTgxZzP.png
“I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close.”
― Pablo Neruda, 100 Love Sonnets

Lasgalen came upon his mate standing in a field, her mane blowing in the light breeze that always accompanied the Windswept Plateau. She looked gorgeous, standing in the soft silver glow of the moon. At that moment, he knew better than anyone else how much one could love another and still live. His heart was consumed by her, by their life together. Stepping forward, he came up alongside her and brushed his muzzle along her shoulder. She turned her head toward him and gave a smile.

"What's on your mind, oh dragon of starlight?" Lasgalen's voice was soft, his cyan eyes locked on hers. The blue gaze of his mate held his, and their snouts met briefly in a short nuzzle. His heart swelled, and for a moment - just a brief moment, he thought he would explode. But the feeling passed and he rested his head over her neck, brushing her scales lightly with his maw. "I'm thinking about our children, about how lucky they will be to find homes that love them and care for them," Galanta's bell-like voice was soft, and Lasgalen could hear the uncertainty in it. She turned her head to look at him, "What? Don't look at me like that."

"I've no idea what you are referring to, little galaxy. I'm not looking at you in any way." Galanta rolled her eyes, reaching out with her muzzle and lightly pulling his mane. He chuckled, then nudged her neck gently, "Our children have done great things before, the next ones will do just as well. Now, come, little galaxy - I have written a song about the most beautiful star in the sky, and I wish to sing it to you. It's a special star... there's only one like it, and she is the most beautiful star that I have ever seen."

Holding his brother's lore for now:

- The youngest of the siblings (Anduin and Lasgalen)
- Exceptionally clever and quick-witted, he is more studious than his brother and sister. He craves knowledge about the world, and enjoys reading the accounts of explorers who have traveled around Sornieth.
- He prefers fashion that serves some sort of purpose other than decoration. His brother sometimes mocks him for his austere fashion sense, but he prefers practical apparel to useless frippery. He prefers trainable familiars, and heavily favors birds and flying creatures; he relies on them to deliver messages.
- He is adept at blood magic, which is similar to the breath magic used by most of Sornieth's dragons but can be used for a wider variety of spells. While his divination abilities are more limited than his mother's, he is especially good at making energy talismans, in which he stores excess spiritual energy for later use. He is also a gifted healer, and can use his magic to heal dragons who have been injured.
- He enjoys making experiments of trying to combine magic with science. Thus far he has succeeded in building a machine that he animated with magic. He repeated the process to create Squawks, his familiar.
- He built his familiar under the careful guidances of Indigo, the clan's machinery expert. He named it "Squawks," simply because the thing could only ever make a squawking noise. Ysaly is quite amused by the bird and teases Eldamar about it quite often. Despite the amusement over the creature, Eldamar is quite fond of it, as is Ysaly, and they use it to sent messages whenever they need to send them.
- Originally Ysaly was paired with his younger brother, Eriador, but when Eri went off to fight for the deties, Ysaly became lonely. Eldamar's mate, Avallone, had also left to serve the deities and the two became close. They fell in love slowly, but neither wished to upset their previous mate and it was only after Valor delivered letters to each of them from their previous mates that told them they should be together that they finally expressed their feelings. They've been close ever since.
- The bow on his tail was placed there by Ysaly after he gave her a ring. It represents their love.
QUOTE: “Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

The youngest of three siblings, Eldamar is both clever and quick-witted, something that he has honed over the years thanks to his studious nature and love of reading. Above all he craves knowledge of the world around him in the broadest sense possible and one of his favorite pastimes is reading accounts, both modern and ancient, of explorers who have traveled all around Sorneith. To him reading about the regular trips made by wind Flight couriers is just as fascinating as the strange and terrifying sights encountered by a pilgrim traveling to the Wyrmwound and finding themselves lucky enough to make it back. The accounts of Snappers on their endless migrations are especially interesting to him thanks to their fondness for including mundane little parts of things and recounting them in perfect detail. In his mind those tales are the next best thing to being there. His studies go beyond the sights and Flights of Sorneith of course, like his siblings he is naturally gifted in magic, skills that he has worked hard to develop and refine.

Eldamar is particularly adept at blood magic, which is similar to, but more versatile than the breath magic most Dragons use. This suits him very well since he approaches magic like a science, something to be analyzed and tested, a trait likely stemming from his Lightning Flight heritage. Blood magic with its precise and meticulous nature best fits his interests, allowing him to carefully test each hypothesis and further refine his efforts. He is highly skilled at making trinkets and small talismans, finding their intricate designs and workings to be a delightful challenge to get just so. One of his favorite things to make are energy talismans, allowing him to store excess spiritual energy for later use, enabling him to work on larger and more complex projects than he would have been able to manage otherwise. Well-rounded in all ways, he is also a gifted healer, using magic to heal any injured dragons that come to him. He supplements this skill with a number of anatomy and medical texts he keeps on hand because even though travelogues are his favorite subject matter he knows the value of expanding one’s knowledge as far as possible. He even dabbles a bit in divination, though his skills there are nowhere near those of his mother.

It’s in combining magic and science where he truly shines though, having actually made his Familiar by himself. Having tested the method by building a machine and animating it with magic, he tried a more refined version of the process and created Squawks. Of course he didn’t create the mechanical bird on his own. For the difficult task of assembling the fully articulated creature he sought out Indigo, the clan’s expert in all things mechanical. Once completed and awakened he named the creature ‘Squawks’ due to it only being able to make squawking noises. His Familiar’s inability to speak doesn’t bother him since it serves his needs admirably and even his mate Ysaly has grown quite fond of the bird, finding a great deal of amusement in its antics as well as using it to send messages to wherever they may need to be delivered. Devoted and clever, Squawks tirelessly sets out and delivers them, much to Eldamar’s delight, for as far as he’s concerned Squawks is an absolutely perfect Familiar, reflecting his love of magic, mechanics and practicality. Seeing all those aspects working so well together gives him inspiration and motivation for even greater works, though he knows that such projects are a long way off, requiring a great deal of study beforehand. Of course, if there’s one thing his reading has taught him it’s that the journey is just as important, if not more so than the destination.

Practicality is important to Eldamar, something that his brother Lasgalen often teases him about. Eldamar sees nothing wrong with his rather austere fashion sense, even if his older brother always has something to say. Then again, Lasgalen, being who he is, would likely find something other than fashion to tease him about if the situation were different, for joking is his way for showing brotherly affection. What matters most to Eldamar is that his attire works for him and fulfills its needed purpose, which is far more important to him than needless flourishes and frippery preferred by his older brother. His interest in practicality is reflected in his favored Familiars, having always preferred highly trainable ones, especially birds and other flying creatures with their ability to deliver messages over long distances. Squawks of course reflects this perfectly. Despite all this, Eldamar is quite the romantic in his own subtle and understated way. The story of how he and Ysaly illustrating this.

Originally Ysaly was paired with his younger brother, Eriador, who departed to serve the deities. Eldamar’s mate Avallone also left to fulfill the same sense of duty. Following this Ysaly grew lonely and, finding himself in similar circumstances, Eldamar acted to comfort her. The pair fell in love slowly, but neither dared act on their feelings out of loyalty to their previous mates, departed on such noble tasks. It was only after each of them received a letter, delivered by Valor, from their previous mates, did their love come to fruition. Thus granted the blessings of both Eriador and Avallone the pair have been close ever since. The one embellishment in Eldamar’s outfit, an ornate bow carefully affixed to his tail is a mark of this relationship. Created and tied by Ysaly it is a physical representation of the deep and powerful bond of love that they share.
