Eideif the Broodwatcher
But he long since moved past his brutal punishment. He saw beyond the ruthlessness of their leader. He knew though the world was vicious, his clan had a tender heart. They had cared for him and his sister when everywhere else had cast them out. They did that, even after he had committed crimes against them.

Story of Shattered Scales Egg Thief As a whelp, Eideif was caught trying to steal eggs from one of the clan's nests. He was caught on a moonless night by Arenna. As she pinned him down, Minstri slipped out of the shadows - as if conjured by the Homeguard's magic. Minstri took him into the lair and punished him by prying all of the crystal scales from his hide, leaving raw skin and bone exposed. Afterwards he was left in the hands of the rest of the clan. Since he had already endured punishment and Minstri had let him live, they took him in and cared for him until he was healed. Sister It was Shatter-Glass who cared for him the most; she was the only other Ridgeback in the clan at that time. Eideif told his story to her. He told her of how he and his sister ran away from home and braved the boneyard together. Shatter set out and brought the sister into the clan as well. The two dragons grew up together there, but neither were given a name for a long time - as it was customary that names be earned. His sister did not like this custom. She didn't like most of the clan's customs and as soon as she was strong enough to fend for herself alone, she left the clan, begging her brother to join her. Begging him to turn away from this mad clan and their mad Queen. "Why would you stay with them after all they have done to you?" |

His sister couldn't see that though, and she left the clan. When she did, he was brokenhearted, but he remained loyal to Minstri and her clan. Broodwatcher Eideif was given the duty of guarding the clan's nest, since he knew well the routes to sneaking in. Though it was a bit of an irony, he felt it fitting for him, and he liked the work. Eventually, he came to think of the nesting grounds as his domain. Though it has been a long time now, and much has changed, he remains the clan's broodwatcher. He often oversees the hatching of new dragons and takes care of the younglings while one or both their parents are away or busy. He prefers the company of the young dragons much more than other adults. The dragons of the clan likewise bow to his authority over the area. If any dragon in the clan should wish to nest, they must go through Eideif. His will is Minstri's will. Eideif has served for years in this capacity, even as the nesting sites were changed, Eideif has remained constant. Eideif maintains records of all clan-sanctioned mating between dragons, nesting schedules, and so on. He is also the coordinator for any foreign dragons wishing to make use of the clan's nests.
