It is a Seeker's job to search. Be it for magic, forgotten history, or those who might one day play parts in the shaping of the world. The journey is never ending and consumes the Seeker like the call a Guardian feels to find their Charge. You cannot apply to be a Seeker, there will never be any two that are the same. A Seeker is born and called to duty in ways beyond mortal knowing. He was born to Darkness and magic, the scion of a dark king's ritual on his corrupted queen. No one is quite sure what happened in that room that night. There are rumours of course, there always are when things like this occur, but even the most knowledgeable admit that their theories are only guesses. The most common theory, the one that seems to root into many of the others, is that the old king made a Deal with Something and that his child, be its soul or life or something much more precious and powerful, was the price. --- Child Radius could always be found asking questions about more and more complicated magics and when the adults finally grew tired of his pestering he would retire to lonely, quiet places and practice using the spells he had learned. This was how it was discovered that Radius had a natural (or perhaps very unnatural) skill in picking up magic. It would only take him a matter of days to master a new skill where it would take others months or even years. What he did during the shift of power between Megatronus and Ikol is still unknown, though his position of power from before and after did not much change for the worse, only for the better. Very few of those in power from the old court still retain their power, Radius is one of the few who did. Radius is quiet and composed and some would call him rather cold. He's never been one to have big shows of emotion, though that does not mean that he doesn't care in his own way for those who have caught his attention. He hungers for knowledge like nothing else and is willing to take it as payment for nearly anything. Sometimes this leads to amorous nightly encounters with his admirers and he is not opposed to that either. Flirtations go over his head, as his attention is usually on the next thing he is wrapping his mind around, but if you're blunt about it, he is an enthusiastic participant. His power permeates the towers of the Broken Bones, soft curls of magic that touch everything in its vicinity, allowing Radius to slip from one place in their lands to another with a simple push of his will into his magic. This lets Radius be a very solid line of defense against attacks and intruders. One such incident let Radius tear through the shadows to come to Shock's defense against the famed Rogue, Gareth. For cornering the bone-bound god, Radius dragged the Skydancer deep into the bowels of the tower and fused him into a shade tree. Eventually Shock freed Gareth and Radius met with the rogue again. They've all moved past that day, but Gareth still carries the touch of Radius' magic on him in the form of a shadow tree arm. --- The Seeker spends many months at a time pouring over every book he can find. One collections leads to another, then another and so he follows the trails of his studies wherever they take him for however long it takes until he has mastered his current obsession. He often pays for his visits with the fruits of the skills he's learned over the years; sometimes this is gold, forgotten rituals or memories of lost kingdoms. He's been known to read palms and tarots as well, though his clearest premonitions are the ones where he seeks you out and not the other way around. The more aesthetically minded pratrons have taken payment with nightly companionship. While he doesn't understand why these things are so valued by others, he is not opposed to it. In his travels for knowledge, he picked up a number of students along the way. Two of the most notable were Rose and Isa, talented dragons in each their own way and who gained Radius' remembrance out of all those who have trailed after him for knowledge. Rose hungered for power. Anything that knowledge could give her to advance her station, she wanted and was willing to learn no matter the cost. Often they spent hours side by side in the library, their lessons more the fact that they inhabited the same space as they worked on different projects. Radius was never one for limiting how his students grew with too much protection or control and so let Rose learn from trial and error, burns and backfires of magic, though he always stayed within easy reach just in case his ambitious charge ever lost control. No need for her to repeat his mistakes... At first, Radius hadn't know that Isa knew his other student. The Seeker had been in the Wayfarer's Haven library for a number of days, researching his newest project, when one night he decided to take the long way home. Something in the dark whispered to him that night and he had long ago learned to follow such threads. He found Isa sitting alone outside, wrapped tightly in his blanket and the Seeker sat beside the young mage, talking for hours. "There is always a path in the dark." He thought that might be the end of it, but the next day he caught another glimpse of Isa, and more so the next, and on and on until they sat side by side in the library, Radius whispering dark magics with his pupil. Rose's eyes drifted to power and recognition but Isa's eyes, in them was a hunger dark and all-consuming. Over the time that they spent together, Radius found a kinship in Isa and his willingness to delve into arts others might turn their backs on. The Seeker had never been one to make relationships easily, but as time kept them together in their studies, he found himself growing rather fond of the fae. Never one to deny himself, Radius was the one to initiate their first kiss while Isa ensured it would not be their last. |
