Lastlight
passion and fire and beauty

Fire dragon Lastlight and her brother Forestfire formed a small hunting group with Nature dragons Thorne and Arcus somewhere in their wanderings, and the four together became the core of the mirror pack that is now loosely a part of the Smokeveil clan. Although she's brash, mercurial, predatory, and more than a little vain, Lastlight has a hidden soft side. Her love of beauty runs deep and mellows her more than anything else can, and she has a profound respect for anyone who can create truly lovely art. (Though uneducated, she has a keen natural eye for artistic skill.) She is also a ferocious protector of children. She and the snapper Tegid formed an unlikely relationship that was both relaxed and respectful, and they had several nests together. He also taught her how to read a little.

She and her brother were very close before he chose exaltation. Once he departed, Lastlight found herself being edged out of the mirror pack by Thorne, who thought she was getting "too fancy" and disapproved of the way she'd yielded to Tegid's wishes over the matter of their son Gif's exaltation. (Thorne would have smacked around the she-dragon who broke his heart at the very least, if not ensured that she had an "accident" somewhere; Tegid preferred to take the nonviolent approach of freezing out both her and her guardian, Ikaroa.) In anger and pride, Lastlight cut ties with the pack herself, and although she claimed not to give a damn, she felt betrayed by her former friends and is very bitter about the whole situation. The event left her somewhat at loose ends—despite her affection for Tegid and their children, she felt out of place in their social circles and missed the easy, earthy camaraderie of the pack. (Oddly, she's not close with her nephew, Fierce, who was sidelined from the pack in almost exactly the same way. She always thought he was an obnoxious brat—which, admittedly, he was for a long time—and she hasn't really noticed how he's changed and matured.)

In his old age, Tegid chose exaltation to the Lightweaver, the god he had honored his entire life. Although Firelight stoically accepted his decision, she was lonely and depressed afterward and began feeling her age, until a very handsome and flirtatious coatl visited the lair and started paying attention to her. Chiaroscuro is significantly younger than her and has weird ideas that involve fancy dinners and dancing and shiny presents (where is she going to wear an elaborate necklace like that, anyway?), but the novelty is interesting and sometimes funny, and his obvious attraction to her makes her feel alive and passionate again.

Facts
– She calls Chiaroscuro "Caro" because five syllables is too long, and how is one supposed to yell that while running through the woods?
– She's tremendously proud of her kids (well, Padi is a little weird), but not really one for obvious displays of affection. In public, she tends to be gruff; in private, a slight touch from her can mean worlds.
– Thorne always thought her fancy skin paint was ridiculous, but she wore it with bravado anyway, although she hasn't worn it in a long time. (Maybe Caro will inspire her....)
