Swept into the sea from the neighboring Shifting Expanse on the tail end of a storm, it was there that Alastar was found and nursed to health by Quara before her elder guardian twins came of age to begin their Search.

Alastar followed, father by then to three of her five children but caretaker to all (though even he was powerless to stop the young Anasa from being swept away into the depths of the sea one evening while playing in the powerful underwater currents, or her brother Kileth from becoming separated in the Scarred Wasteland during a particularly harrowing leg of the clan's long and perilous journey).

When at last they came to settle in the Southern Icefield, he took it upon himself to remain a father figure to all of Quara's growing brood, in contrast to Cray's stoic guardianship over their many children.
