The Archivist
Records and archives the Clan's history

Arrived in the Clarus Clan on April 13th, 2015

When Neva first came to the Clarus Clan, her gembond was at its worse. She had just undergone surgery for her male-to-female transition, in a distant Clan along the western edge of the Starfall Isles. This was seasons ago. The gems were painful, and slowed her down somewhat. But she was more comfortable in this way, in her true body, than she had ever been.

In the early days of her membership, the medic at the time, Khseraf - now deceased - worked with Foxglove to search for a cure. They never found one to rid Neva of her gembond completely, but they were able to sooth the pain with a salve they concocted, and it worked to reduce the speed of the gem’s growth. Now, Neva hardly feels the gems, she is so used to them. Still, she does not fly often due to their weight. Rather than agitate her wings, she prefers to walk through the forest.

At first, she was naive when it came to dealing with other dragons. Her devotion was to her studies. She tucked herself away from the main clearing, creating a cozy little nook past some ferns where she organized herself and her work. Here, she was surrounded by her astounding collection of books and records.

Although she was not a librarian, her Clanmates often called her one. She didn’t mind at all. She loved books, of course, and was happy to lend her collection out to those who needed it. And there was no other librarian in the Clan at the time, so she would fill in the role until another came along. She had an efficient rental system worked out for the Clarus Clan dragons.

ALLIES

After settling into her new home, she was brought on to the Council Minora as the Clan’s archivist. She began to record the Clan’s day-to-day life, marking the most important moments in her archival records. These were at one point public to the Clan and to visitors, but during the events that would later be called the Hypnos Scandal, the records were made private as decreed by the Clarus Clan councils. They were never again made public completely, although Neva and the councils agreed that the archives should be accessible to those who were interested and passed a screening process. Every so often, in celebration of the Clan’s growth, the archives are opened to the public, but only for a limited time. The work she did with the Clarus Clan councils helped her come out of her shell, and she became friendlier, open to newcomers and happy to socialize.

Eventually, she grew close with the other bookworms of the Clan - Orion, Hecate and her mate Helios, who became the Clan’s librarian. Vervain joined the Clan later on, and the two grew quite close over their love of collecting stories and sharing them. She even began a romantic partnership with Atheria, the mysterious Skydancer who never spoke of her past. As a lover of history, Neva was eager to learn about Atheria - but Neva also understood the Skydancer's need for privacy. So the two began to bond over anything else, and they would write long letters to one another as their own form of communicating.

She can bond with any dragon over a good book, and if asked about the Clan’s history, or Sorneith’s saga, she will go on and on and … If one asks nicely enough, Neva will even allow one to borrow the Clan's records of current and past members, which she guards carefully. And even the archives are available to dragons deemed worthy, or on special occasions. But be warned - any who do not bring the materials back to her on time will be cursed with her Arcane magic!

The only time in recent memory anyone has seen Neva fly is during the Hypnos Scandal; and again when the Fair Folk attacked the lair, breaking the treaty with the Sidhe. The battle had taken a turn for the worse - many dragons had disappeared, and many others had died in the fight. There was no way to win and survive, so the Clan's councils called for a retreat. It was the first time the Clan had ever left their home. The Clan was scattered. To save the most important in her collection, the Clan records and her favourite books, Neva magicked together a portable bookcase, shrunk it to size to fit in her claws, and flew from the lair to the edge of the Clan territory.

HOARDS

Atheria was right behind her, helping Neva fly - or so Neva thought. When Neva was far enough away from the lair, she thought it safe to land. But when she turned around, there was nobody with her. At first, Neva thought maybe Atheria had somehow landed without Neva seeing her. But after calling for her partner, worried about a bad landing or perhaps an unaccounted-for injury, Neva realized - Atheria never made it out of the lair with her in the first place. Nobody was with her - Nea was alone. She wanted to give up then and there, but she knew that Atheria had never given up. She wouldn't either. Her Clan archives were left alone - for what use was there to write about a broken Clan? - but Neva began to document her own journey in order to maintain her records.

For a while, Neva was left to roam the forest alone before she was able to meet up with Helios and Orion, accompanied by Orion’s mate Sagittarius, on the edge of their territory. The small group did not know where the rest of the Clan was, so they would have to survive on their own until the Clan could reunite and take back their home.
