When she was a child, she was blessed with visions, able to predict the dance of clouds and the breaths of prey. And it was a great help, of course, a great asset for her clan. When will fire rain from the skies again? They asked her. When will we slay our next greatbeast? And she would always, always answer.

When she was a child, she saw a vision of her clan's grounds painted in red. The red of flames, the red of blood—why was it, she cried within that nightmare, that the flames oozed a deeper red than the pools at her feet? And the flames answered her by creeping closer, closer, to the corpse that lay at her feet. They answered her by tearing into the corpse's flesh with vicious precision, pulsing and throbbing as blood sprayed into the air, twisting grotesquely as the blood fell upon their shape and they grew. They grew and they warped into such a rich, full red that when she looked upon them she felt sick.

She awoke.

Another ask, another answer. Her head hurt.

Another ask, another answer. When she scrubbed at her mouth, blood came away with it. When had that gotten there, she wondered dully?

Another ask...

The nightmare came again. When she awoke the next day, there was a pool of dark liquid on the spot where her head had lain. Curious, she reached out to the pool with her head still throbbing, and scooped it up in her talons.

Where it met her claws, it erupted into dark, red flames.

...

She called it the curse of self-fulfilling prophecy.
