"I didn't get to be this old by being stupid, lad."

In his former home, some place Corwin will only refer to as "Amber," he once wanted nothing more than to lead his clan. His father wanted to choose his successor among Corwin and his various siblings and half-siblings, so in his younger years Corwin spent a good deal of time trying to outwit his siblings to gain his father's favor. He was in a terrible accident, orchestrated by a few siblings, and although he wasn't killed, he suffered from severe amnesia. Slowly he regained his memory, and discovered which of his siblings were behind his accident. When his father finally named him as the successor, Corwin declined the position. He knew his siblings would not stop their scheming once he was ruling them...and he wanted no more part in it.

So, he left the clan of his birth in search of some other place to call his own. Wandering all across Sorneith, he never stayed in one place for particularly long. He didn't know what he was looking for, only that he was sure he would know when he had found it.

One day, scavenging around Dragonhome, Corwin caught a glimpse of something bright green among all of the dull earthy browns of the surrounding rocks. He flew in closer for inspection. There, at the base of the Pillar, was a lonely Wind egg. He picked it up and cradled the egg in his paws, deciding right then that he had to get this egg back home to the Windswept Plateau.

For several days and nights he flew, never stopping, never resting, before reaching the Windsinger's domain. Exhausted, he landed in the Zephyr Steppes, setting the egg down gently before collapsing into the soft green grass and falling into a deep sleep.

He awoke to the sound of something scooting across the ground towards him. He cautiously opened one eye and saw the egg was no longer intact, that it was broken open, and both eyes flew open as he sat up. The scuffling sound continued, and he looked behind him to the source of the noise. There, next to his tail, was a small Imperial hatchling, with scales of the deepest red. The hatchling noticed Corwin's stare and scurried towards the older dragon's arms. Unsure, Corwin picked the hatchling up. The little Imperial's eyes were the same color as the egg he had come out of.

It was then, at that moment, that Corwin knew exactly what he had been looking for.
