Creas, one of the oldest of the clan, tracks it's history, as well as all breeding patterns and couplings. Her rooms are a mess; stacked high with books, scrolls flung about in disarray and a multitude of ink-splotched papers scattered on the floor. She still knows exactly where everything is, though... The gene scrolls are bought (or sometimes made) but only ever given to dragons who have done great work for the clan, or proven themselves to be valuable assets. This is a throwback to the plague clan - the strategy was so ingrained in the clan and produced such good results that it couldn't be discarded. Breed scrolls are different. They are basically gifts from the deities themselves. While gene changes are quick and relatively painless, breed changes take days, or even weeks, and are excruciating. They require a ritual to start and the honoured dragon has to bear the pain - failure is a very real occurrence. Failed breed changes mean death. As such, Creas takes very careful stock of the dragon in question and either okays or vetoes them. She is an old dragon, and has been handling changes since she joined the original plague clan. She takes her job incredibly serious. If she says no, there is no arguing - not unless the dragon in question is aiming for a solid five hour lecture on the dangers of breed change scrolls and a list of every dragon that failed to make the change. |
