Buried in the bowels of the Cathedral, down echoing candle-lit passages,
something shines with an ethereal luster. It emits a golden glow into the darkness
and those who approach find a door,
its gilded surface nearly reflective where it is not marred by carvings of sigils and runes.
The door moves.
It is never in the same place amidst the labyrinthine tunnels and sometimes
it appears elsewhere entirely -
amidst the shining halls of the opera house above
or hidden beneath a tangle of ivy in the gardens.
The door creaks open on its own, golden light flooding from within.
Inside, it appears to be an endless circular library
with shelves spiraling infinitely upwards.
At the center of the room sits a gilded plinth
with a serpentine statue coiled around its top.
The room is said to contain endless knowledge guarded by an ancient creature.
Or perhaps it is a creature comprised from knowledge itself.
The golden statue opens its eyes.
