Two things stand like stone.
Kindness in another's trouble,
Courage in your own.”

STORY
OM4uceU.png

My life has never been easy. I woke as a hatchling to find my shell laying broken and abandoned behind me. It had still been warm. I'm not sure where my parents went or what caused them to go, but I was alone. I like to think that they went missing trying to protect me from the beastclans and that we've just been separated this whole time. I know this is wishful thinking.

I was weak, alone and struggling to survive. Too small to fight the beastclans, I hid and foraged for food and water. It was not easy and I failed miserably. It was on a particularly bad day that I prayed for the first time. I didn't even know who I was praying to. I only knew that I couldn't make it alone.

It was when I was half-dead and delirious with thirst that I saw my first vision of our Glademother. She was beautiful. Cloaked in leaves and smelling of bark and flowers, she glowed with the warmth of the summer sun.

And then she spoke. Her voice was ethereal and magic....like leaves rustling in the wind or the flutter of a bird's wings.

Rise sapling. You are chosen.

From this day forward, you will never be alone.

I am here with you always, but there will be others.

You possess both strength and kindness.

You must lead them on my path.

You must teach them my ways.

As the dragon faded from my view, I closed my eyes and slept. I do not know for how long. The sun was low in the sky when I awoke to the sweet taste of water being trickled into my mouth. A tiny fae hovered above me. His name was Aidan. He has been my constant companion since that day.

Together we have carved out a lair of our own. Other dragons have made their home with us. I lead them and teach them the ways of the Gladekeeper, even though I sometimes wonder what makes them stay. The Glademother sometimes speaks to me. I wasn't aware that this was unusual until the others began to look on me with awe. I do not know what it means to be chosen, but I will follow the path that the Glademother has laid out for me. Because I do know what it means to be alone...and as long as I walk with her I will never feel that again.
