Biography
Obscuring Goblin (five toed pilco) purple trickster next, dreameater
Mate is Setsuko
Kanami had always told herself that she' felt this sort of love before. That this was nothing new, that it was okay to love someone platonically more than you loved your former mate.
After all, how could she not love Setsuko?
She's the one who has always been there for her, the one who kept her grounded when she felt like finally breaking down. The one she had wished was holding her instead when she fell asleep at night, and...
Perhaps this was a bit more than just a platonic love.
It was pitch black in the middle of the night, long after all of the dragons in the clan had settled down to sleep after a day full of activities. The only ones awake were likely the dragons that leaned more towards the nocturnal side, and even then, may of them were out and about for business by the time Kanami stepped out of her den.
In her shaking claws was a letter, meticulously folded to hide the curly draconic within. She had spent all night writing and rewriting phrases, trying to find a way to justly articulate her feelings. It was a lot harder than she had thought it would be.
How can you capture years of stifled emotion into a single piece of paper?
Taking a deep breath and steeling herself to the world, Kanami followed the path to Setsuko's home. She knew it by heart- of course she did. Setsuko was always the one she would go running to for help, a crying hatchling in her arms or broken-hearted tears streaming down her cheeks.
Setsuko was always there, and now, Kanami wanted to return the favor.
Knocking against the wooden door to the den lightly, Kanami tried her best to keep her nerves under control. She was just visiting her best friend, nothing scary about that, she reminded herself. Except for the fact that depending on how this goes, things between them might change forever.
Yeah, nothing scary at all!
The door creaked open to reveal Setsuko squinting against the candle that floated out to provide light, a warm, lazy smile brightening her face as she saw who had been the one knocking. "Kanami! What are you doing up so late?"
Kanami laughed, a nervous and forced sound, the paper between her fingers crumpling slightly at the force in which she was gripping it. She forced herself to speak, coatl accent slipping in to give her voice an anxious hum. "I-I have something for you." She said, thrusting the paper out to offer it to her. "It couldn't wait until morning."
"Oh?" Setsuko asked, eyes sparkling with amusement beneath her hood as she took the note, a teasing quality to her voice. "A love letter? For me?"
Setsuko couldn't help but sputter on her words, looking away as the other coatl began to read. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Setsuko's expression softened as she skimmed over the words, and then was surprised to find them shining with tears when she looked again. A spark of panic flooded her chest at the sight.
"Wait, no, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you-"
Kanami was cut off by Setsuko pulled her forward, pressing her head against hers in a show of affection before nuzzling her cheek. Kanami's own tears sprang to her eyes at the feeling, and letting out a relieved sob she relaxed into the touch.
"I've loved you since the day I met you." Setsuko said, staying close. "I was always too scared to say. Of course I'll be with you."
Kanami laughed, a joyful sound that hiccuped with tears, pulling away slightly to lean her forehead against Setsuko's, peering into her eyes. Her voice was soft with affection as she spoke.
"You're the only one I've ever wanted, and now that I've got you, I promise to never let you go."
