When he was born he was kissed by a fairy. The kiss of the fairy was said to mark him as the Hero of Legend. His parents were so proud. Being the leaders of the Hylians, the blessing was even more respected. Truly someday their child would make a good leader, a wonderful warrior.. a blessing of prosperity for the Hylians.

When the Gerudo came to their village, he was a only ten years old. The Gerudo were following a new leader, who was barely a man. He demanded the Hylains kneel to him, bow and become his servants, or face death. The Hylians were a proud people, they refused his orders and laughed. What could a single man do? The war between the Hylians and Gerudo was a long and bloody one, and one the Hylians would not win. The Hylian's surrendered as their numbers dwindled. At the signing of the peace treaty, the male Gerudo seized the son of the leaders. Dark magic surged around the child, enveloping him in furious shadows. His mother cried, begging the leader of the Gerudo not to harm their son. The cruel leader laughed and cursed the prince. "He will not be able to lead your people into a revolt against the Gerudo so i will claim his voice. And from this day forth he will no longer be known as a prince, instead he shall be known as Link." The shadow magic changed the young Hylian, his name and voice forever lost in the shadows.

The curse placed on Link had far-reaching consequences.. more than the male Gerudo had ever imagined. With the change of his name, his people no longer recognized him as one of their own. They called him a spy, him being unable to talk to explain himself sealing his fate to exile. Only Link seemed to remember their friendly caresses, that he had once been their son.. once been a prince. He left his home, to somewhere he did not know.. a world unfamiliar to him. Link did not survive his first winter, the cold claimed his life.

Due to the fairy's kiss marking him as the Hero of Legend, Link was reborn into another body. This was when the true influence of the curse let its self be known. Unlike his past regenerations, he could remember his past life, dying in the cold, his parents turning him into the street.. and the curse. He tried to test his theory.. to speak.. but not a sound came from his mouth.. not even a whisper. He managed to live for many reincarnations a simple farmer, a goatherd, things which did not require a voice. With each reincarnation he had to wonder.. why me? why do i remember all of my lives when others forget?
