Inheriter of the Spirit
Hemokai did not know his parents, as both of them left swiftly shortly after his hatching. They had come to the Clan of Singing Blood on invitation from the Queen. Though it was Caine that held the Queen's interest. His mate was of so little concern that her name did not even make it onto any of the clan's records. Caine however, could trace his lineage to the Frost-Starved down both his parental lines separately. That is why the Queen wanted him. Caine himself, however, had been long removed from that part of his heritage - hailing from the Stormcatcher's desert, where both his parents had served as medics.

The two got on quite well until their children hatched. One a clumsy, and lanky little Skydancer, the other, a stout and hairless Tundra. The Skydancer seemed just as any babe should. The Tundra... did not. He seemed slightly squashed and deformed, and there was a haze of terror which seemed to cling to him in place of his fur. That he was a tundra born to parents who were neither tundra nor even had any tundra in their lineage that they knew of seemed secondary to the hatchling's other problems.

Filled with concern the pair sought answers from the Broodwatcher, who only said "But this is what I was told to expect, were you not? The queen has been tending those eggs herself." The Queen's answer proved worse still, as she revealed the reason she had invited them to her clan. She was greatly pleased with the little tundra and seemed terrifically baffled as to the dawning sense of horror the two parents were having.

It had never been her intention to trick them, but they seemed to be under the impression that she had done just that. The father going so far as to lunge and snap at the Queen, before being squashed to the ground by her guardian.

The mother fled immediately in terror, leaving both her children behind. Caine was not too far behind her. Still, they never did see eachother again. Amaterasu did make her way to the Shifting Expanse in the hopes of finding Caine, but he was long gone from any place she could reach him. Horrified by the revelation of his heritage and exploitation of his bloodline he fled as far as he could from Plague, and tried to seek redemption for himself in the Glade's embrace.

Sleeping Spirit
Hemokai was raised as most dragons of Singing Blood are, by the clan as a whole. This was never more necessary with any other hatchling. Most had trouble caring for him for long durations as even at a very young age he inflicted some madness upon those around him. He was not otherwise difficult. He was highly intelligent and extraordinarily gentle. He and his sister got along very well and were quite close. She seemed to be the only dragon who could spend much time with him without concern.

Minstri intended to train Hemokai as a warrior, but he did not take to it. Not at first. That changed when he drew near to adulthood, long after most would think it was too late for such training.

The details of the event that triggered that change are not fully known, as the witnesses to it were wholly unable afterward to tell about it. Hemokai and his sister had been walking the cliffs near the lair. Not a dangerous place, so it's not exactly known what happened. If they were attacked, or there was some other trigger, but the alarming cries and roars brought the patrol to them both quickly enough. The remains of a few beasts, unidentifiable due to damage and many missing parts, and Hemokai's sister, nearly dead and under brutal assault from her brother. The patrol managed to turn Hemokai away from the Skydancer, but none were able to subdue him until the arrival of Grabal.

Hemokai's last memory of his sister was the two of them descending the cliffs together. He had no memory past that point and never saw her again after.

Soldier Starved
Hemokai put himself towards his training with startling enthusiasm after this. He didn't require much, however. While lucid he makes for a poor combatant and a mediocre tactician. His ability to move between this state and that of a berserker is his greatest trick. Once that is done, however, he is very lacking in the ability to tell friend from foe, but those who fight beside him are well versed in the ways to keep his attention away from them and on their enemies.

Hemokai is proud of his heritage and ferocity, which comes as a surprise to many who are just getting to know him, as he is usually exceptionally kind and gentle. A bit lethargic as well. If he dwells on the tragedy of his sister, it does not show. Though he never takes to any battlefield he knows Kisankai occupies, and never spends any time with her outside the Bonestrewn Crest.
