Hailing from the harshness of the Scarred Wasteland, Arkose is a Plague dragon currently living in Nature territory. It seems like an odd juxtaposition to most - many Nature natives, even within a peaceful clan, avoid her out of fear - but Arkose is adamant that the two flights are not only not incompatible, but actually two sides of the same coin. Because of that, she admires what Cactus is trying to do and has a pretty obvious crush on her. Unfortunately for her, Cactus won't trust anything or anyone relating to Plague, however nice they may act, so her affections have remained from a distance... so far.

Despite being a peaceful dragon herself, Arkose adores and idolizes her mother, Snap - she sees her raw strength and unflinching will as a gift from the goddess herself and a manifestation of Plague culture, although she honestly isn't too sure how to feel about the more bloody parts of her mother's history. In actuality, Arkose shares very few personality traits with her mother, instead taking after her father, Earthquake, a Plague dragon who now heads an Earth-aligned clan. Arkose and Earthquake share a belief in inter-flight harmony, seeing every flight as a piece of an intricate puzzle, which has helped Arkose to fit in well here. She acknowledges the fact that her father influenced her a lot, and she loves and admires him as well.

Like the other guardians in her family, she's physically strong, though she's often hesitant to take advantage of that. Arkose is actually more than a little disturbed by dragons who feel the need to flaunt their strength to the point of cruelty, which has led to mixed feelings on Shale - on the one hand, they have a lot in common as followers of the Plaguebringer, on the other, Arkose is much more moderate and... chill. She has a fascination with death but not killing, preferring to scavenge skeletons and catalogue diseases rather than actually fight. Her insistence on recording everything she sees is a product of the Earth influences in her upbringing, although she vastly prefers paper notebooks to stone tablets. She's also fascinated in the natural history of Sornieth and constantly writes or sketches in her notebooks.

Arkose's search is still ongoing, and though she's happy where she is she's a little frustrated it's taking her so long compared to her siblings - if even her youngest sister Caldera could find her charge, why can't she? Sometimes she feels as though the only guardian she can talk to is the clan's matriarch, Tiamat, who shares Arkose's confusion in regards to what's expected of her. Is her charge knowledge? The Plague or possibly Nature flight? Is it Cactus...? She can't tell, and it makes her extremely uncomfortable to lack the answers that come so easily to others. Still, she's content with her peaceful life of writing letters to her parents and sharing her knowledge with clanmates of all flights.

She also helps run a book club and may secretly be a trashy romance author under a pen name. Maybe. No one knows. Arkose sure isn't letting on. It's hilarious to watch everyone else scrambling to be the first to 'prove' it.

(At least they haven't found her deity shipping fanfiction. That she'll keep to herself.)

19021049.png Arkose and Eidolon come from two clans who have long been allies, and though they weren't really raised together, they treat each other as long-lost sisters. Arkose is observant of scientific facts and the environment, while Eidolon is observant of people. Pooled together, their knowledge is vast, and the two often give each other good advice during their long late-night talks over coffee.

Eidolon is also one of very few dragons who knows that, alongside the nonfiction catalogues of diseases she publishes, Arkose is also an author of trashy romance novels under a pen name. (At least, she's one of the only ones Arkose has told directly - there are a few other dragons who suspect.) She also knows about Arkose's deity shipping fanfics, which she doesn't show to literally anyone else - they're that close.

3877305.png Arkose adores and idolizes her mother, Snap, seeing her almost as an incarnation of the Plaguebringer herself. Brutal where Arkose is placid, Snap is a mighty warrior through and through, tenacious in a way Arkose knows she could never be. In a not-so-subtle bid for her mother's favor, Arkose wears an array of bones - at least they can look similar, if not act it.

3877304.png Earthquake is the parent Arkose much more closely resembles personality-wise. They both preach inter-flight peace, and are both calm, methodical dragons who would rather write letters than fight. Arkose also loves swapping notes with him, and she sends him constant letters. (And, on occasion, some of her more shameful writing. She knows he won't judge her. At least, she hopes he won't.)

7071275.png Arkose is pretty openly in love with Cactus, and most dragons suspect even if it's technically a secret. Unfortunately, due to Arkose both looking like and embracing the role of Plague dragon, it's unlikely to go anywhere. No matter how nice Arkose acts toward her, Cactus is still terrified of her. Despite both Arkose and Cactus often working closely with the clan's leader, Tiamat, due to them being important trusted members of Bird Of Paradise, Arkose rarely directly speaks to Cactus.

Eidolon says she should just try already. Arkose doesn't want to stress Cactus unduly (and has also noticed the way Venom eyes her warily whenever she considers trying). So, for now, she has to settle for gushing in private about how amazing her crush is.

Poinsettia is... well, it's complicated.

When she was much younger and wandering the world on her search, Arkose agreed to serve as a surrogate for Poinsettia's father, Ayn, and his boyfriend at the time. You know, for science. Despite never having yet felt any kind of romantic pull to anyone, Arkose has a habit of giving herself rare diseases in order to catalogue the effects firsthand (much more ethical than inflicting such things on other dragons), so what was one more experiment to help out a new friend? The explicit agreement was that Arkose would not be considered the mother, just a genetic donor.

She never expected to see him again, much less meet Poinsettia herself.

Poinsettia knows about Arkose's role in her birth, but the two don't have a mother-daughter relationship. Instead, they treat each other as recently-reunited cousins - family, but not close family. (Which is fine by Poinsettia - to her, Ayn is the parent she grew up with and the only one she's ever needed.) Arkose has encouraged Poinsettia and her son Fennel to reach out to their relatives in Clan Elsewhere, though - after all, Arkose thinks her own family is pretty heckin' rad - and Fennel now serves in The Wolves, which Poinsettia loves to rave about to a contented Arkose. It was a situation rife with the potential for awkwardness, but they've settled into a dynamic that suits everyone.

(Still, sometimes when Poinsettia says something particularly witty or puts on an especially moving play, Arkose feels a strange sense of pride, and wonders if this is how her parents feel about her.)

Arkose isn't sure what to think of Shale.

On the one hand, they have a lot in common as followers of the Plaguebringer. On the other, Shale is, well... prejudiced. She's getting better as time passes - she's stopped outright antagonizing Nature dragons, for example - but she still generally won't acknowledge dragons that aren't Plague. As someone who preaches inter-flight unity, this frustrates Arkose more than anything else.

She's hoping that she can slowly untangle Shale's biases through logic... but it is very slow. It's fortunate that patience was one of the traits she inherited from her snapper-raised father.
