Dragon Log

This was the advertisement this very intriguing young dragon wore proudly around her neck when she arrived at the Clan's door. Ordinarily, such a bold declaration of dark purpose would have upset Duskshadow greatly, but lately some of her "children" have been delving into some interesting magical ventures.... and the results have been... well, interesting. With some "gray" mages already in the Family--several of whom have definitely taken notice of the newest arrival--perhaps it is not so surprising a Darker Mage has arrived.... and after all, as long as she limits her chaos to those outside the Clan and Flight, is it really a bad thing that a Mage capable of using er--unusual--modes of defense has moved in? Only time will tell....

8-7-15: Her quest for a partner in crime has taken her to the Elemental Gems Clan of Curiosities... and she does not seem at all adverse to be counted one of the most "curious" dragons here, as long as she is left in peace to pursue her interests. The only question is, does she have a hidden agenda? And what will her influence on the Mischief-Makers of the Clan be--and do? The rest of the Clan can only wait, and hope the damage isn't too bad....

9-8-15: It is a full moonturn since Nebula joined the Clan... and she has chosen her first mate. The rest of the Clan is stunned by the choice. Could it be that the happy-go-lucky Puzzle has a darker side no one has seen? Or is it possible that in this case opposites are attracting, and he might just mellow her out? Whatever the reason for her choice, there are now 3 eggs in the hatching grounds....

11-7-15: A Spooky Event is always going to catch this Tundra's interest, especially with a manor looking like a perfect Haunted House, in the midst of the Tangled Woods. ( ) And with the “permission” of the Clan Mother herself to wander through these interesting woods and look for Soulfire, who has gone missing, Nebula was very much looking forward to doing some experim--er, exploring--with the locals. ( ) Fortunately, the ones at the door were able to deal with her, and soon send her packing with a treat and info about Soulfire, but nothing else. ( ) It seems that Nebula will have to work on hiding that aura of hers a little harder....

11-16-15: Nebula's Scrapmetal Tracker companion has Awakened! Unlike his brethren Bone, he has not started barking, or whining....but the Clan is not sure his growls at every dragon that comes near Nebula when she is working are an improvement....

12-25-15: Having produced three strange hatchlings by Puzzle (2 Mirrors and a Tundra), Nebula has moved on. She is trying to catch Riddle's attention, but at the moment he is sniffing around the completely uninterested--and slightly unnerved--Abracadabra. Only time will tell whether Nebula wins her conquest, or Riddle does--or both have to settle for something else....

1-24-16: While Nebula is still trying to catch Riddle’s attention, a new familiar has caught her attention: A Cragward Custodian wants to play! Nebulua is quite impressed with young Berg--and his gorgeous chains just begging to be used on an unsuspecting dragon--and already imagining the possibilities….

1-29-16: Much to Nebula's chagrin, she has found herself entered into the 2016 Crystalline Gala Sornieth Winter Games. It seems that in their excitement over an earlier win, the Clan completely forgot that every Event has to be entered in order to have a shot at the best prizes, and so Nebula now faces the prospect of somehow winning a Cooking Competition, of all things, to uphold the honor of her Clan ( )....

1-31-16: Nebula did not win the Cooking Competition, or even place, but she upheld the honor of the Clan and gave them a chance at the Grand Prize...and though they did not win that, either, at least they lost fair and square, and not due to a technicality. All in all the Dark Mage is quite pleased--and has she, perchance, found a new, less lethal hobby? The Clan can only hope....

2-17-16: Unexpectedly, it appears that Nebula has won her dragon after all..... Riddle has turned around out of nowhere and agreed to mate with her! In fact, they already have 2 eggs on the hatching ground. Some of the dragons are wondering if perhaps Nebula has been experimenting with Love Potions again.... but Abracadabra, for one, is not unhappy about this turn of events at all.....

2-23-16: Nebula's newest children have been born: a dark-furred male Tundra, and a lighter female mirror. It is too early yet to tell what they will be like, but considering their parents, the Clan is a bit tense....

4-26-16: Berg has Awakened! Nebula is quite pleased for her Cragward Custodian, but the rest of the Clan is eyeing his swinging chain with trepidation. What will he do now that he has fully matured?

10-10-16: The first of Nebula's offspring has decided to leave the Clan: Her middle daughter by Puzzle is trying her luck in Wind Flight, in the Clan of PuffinPrincess. The Clan is a little unsure what this may mean for the young Mirror's future Clanmates, as this particular Mirror was even more secretive than Puzzle and Nebula combined....

10-11-16: Following in her half-sister's footsteps, Nebula's only daughter by Riddle has also left the Clan--but she has returned to her mother's Birth Flight of Ice, in the Clan of ElphabaThropp. Nebula is curious how her daughter will fare there, and hopes that this particular one of her children may have finally found an acceptable home....

11-20-16: Nebula was so focused on her other children that she missed the quiet withdrawal of her youngest daughter by Puzzle. Restless and unsettled by nature, the odd Female Tundra traveled to a Water Clan, where she subsequently took the name Stormlight, and journeyed to serve the Tidelord in his ranks of Exalted. Nebula is impressed and honored to have such a daughter, and glad that she found a place for herself at last....

...And on the same day that Nebula received this news, she learned that her youngest daughter by Riddle has also become Exalted in the ranks of a God... though in this case Chitling chose the Plaguebringer, rather than the Tidelord. Nebula was a little confused why her favorite daughter had left Ice Flight... right up until she heard Riddle bragging that his daughter had been personally chosen by his Birth Goddess. True or not--and Nebula is more inclined to go with "not"-- it certainly makes for an entertaining story, and a nice addition to the family history....

11-25-16: Nebula was going to cook for the Clan today, but for some reason they were not too keen on her new Ensorcelled Volume recipe book. Nebula cannot, for the life of her, understand why. Who wouldn't want to know 300 different ways to prepare liver and onions? It’s not like she's throwing in any of her special spices or enhancements--well, maybe just a few, but what's life without a little excitement? She's not going to be hurting anybody... at least not much....

3-11-17: The Ensorcelled Volume has Awakened! For some reason, the Clan does not seem nearly as happy about this fact as Nebula is....

2-1-18: With the advent of a possible love potion having been used on several dragons, it looked like Nebula was not going to be able to go to the Crystalline Gala this year. But after much debate, and a great deal of gentle interceding by Moondust, Duskshadow agreed to allow Nebula to go, but with restrictions. It came as quite a shock to the entire Clan to realize that their Clan Mother could actually shut down their magic if they misbehaved, and Nebula, for one, was not happy with the implications. But at least she can now go to the Gala, even if she IS required compete before she can gather any new ingredients for her stores. And after all, how hard can Curling really be?... ( )

2-5-18: To her horror, Nebula has discovered that she was not exactly correct in most of her assumptions. Curling is not, apparently, an easy game. Nor is her torment over, as all the dragons of the Clan are almost constantly talking about the Games, and she can't get away from it. (And she cannot for the life of her understand why the fools are so happy with their results. No, the Curling team did not place near last place, but they certainly weren't first either.) But she DID get back her magic....Well, 1 out of 3 isn't bad...as long as she can find somewhere to hide from the move-by-move replays so she can brew her new potions in peace....

7-10-18: Nebula may just have discovered a new--somewhat legitimate--outlet for her talents! Or at least, she has found a batter way to play with her potions...maybe...

Nebula glanced up in surprise at the quiet throat-clearing behind her. Turning, she beheld one of the shyer members of the Clan watching her.

"Sister," she greeted her Clanmate with interest, "what brings you to my section of the caves?"

Eveningrose shifted uncomfortably, clearly not sure what to say. Her golden eyes were nervous, yet determined. The Dark Mage watched her, waiting. There was time to indulge this odd behavior. Her newest potion was still in its first stages, after all, and would not suffer from the delay.

"I want a Love Potion," Eveningrose blurted. She swallowed as Nebula raised an eyebrow. "I-I spoke to Puzzle, and...Riddle, and I know you can do it...without hurting the dragon, I mean, and I really, really need this..." Rose stammered to a halt, unable to continue under Nebula's steady gaze.

Nebula sat back on her hind feet, intrigued. No one had ever asked her for one of her potions before--at least, not like this. "And which dragon are you trying to ensnare, Rose? Brian? Or perhaps Qausar?" She had noticed Rose eying her son over the past few weeks, but she hadn't thought much of it. It might be interesting, though, to have this one for a daughter-in-law...

"No!" Rose's eyes widened in horror. Not Quasar, then. Pity. "No, nothing like that...I-I want it for myself." She lifted her head, her tail twitching in agitation. "I want to fall in love--temporarily--with Nightsedge. So I can make him happy, and give him a couple hatchlings, and maybe then he'll stop being so sad." She sighed. "He's such a dear, and so handsome, and I WANT to love him, but I can't. And I don't know why!" Her wail of frustration bounced off the caves.

The Dark Mage kept a straight face only through years of practice. So the Guardian thought that she needed help falling in love, did she? This could be interesting....

And so Nebula gave Eveningrose a potion...but what did she give her? Only the Dark Mage knows...but Rose and Nightsedge seem happy with the results, so it can't be too bad...

1-28-19: The Crystalline Gala has come around again, and with it, the Sornieth Winter Games. And Nebula had a shock for the whole Clan--and especially the Curling team, as she has decided to join the team voluntarily this year. No one is sure what is going on, or what it will mean for the Games. They will just have to wait and see... ( )

2-8-19: And see they did! The team gave a strong performance on the field, and walked away with a medal at last. ( )

Of course, it is only the Bronze, but any medal is better than none, and maybe now that the team knows it can win, they will do even better next year. Nebula is certain that she can convince Bombarda to get them to practice harder ( ) ...

5-26-19: Despite what the Clan thinks, Nebula is NOT fond of Festivals. She just…can’t let go of a challenge once begun. And that is the ONLY reason she returns to the Gala every year. It has nothing to do with how nice it feels to be on the tundra again, or the way the air smells in the Southern Icefield, or how the plants always taste better…or anything else. All she wants to do is get that Gold Medal. Then she will happily abandon the others for more time gathering herbs and plants for her poison--er, potion--making. And rare ingredients are also the only reason she is at the Greenskeeper Gathering this year. She is NOT getting a fondness for travel, or Icewarden forbid, for silly games. And she has no idea why staring at that odd Window caused her to think of doing something for “fun” ( ) …

6-19-19: Once again, a surge of energy has passed through the lair, this time affecting several dragons in the Magical Phenomena area of the caves. Nebula is not entirely certain she is happy with the double Halo that has now appeared around her head, but the Clan is of the opinion that the appearance of the Glitterfreeze and Murkmirth Haloes is not in the least surprising. The only question is how long Nebula will allow them to stay, as she is already working on hiding them as much as possible....

12-30-19: Nebula has an Apprentice! Or maybe a new victim. Its hard to tell the difference sometimes, after all. But either way, she is enjoying working with Vitriola, as the youngest Alchemist in the Clan begins to explore the subtle art of potions and poisons....

1-30-20: The Crystalline Gala, and the Sornieth Winter Games, have returned for another year, and once again, the Curling Team has taken to the Pit. This year, they hope to bring home something better than a Bronze Medal. Unfortunately, Nebula is a little distracted this year, due to the fact that her Goddaughter Samhain stole a number of the Dark Mage’s rarest potions ingredients, to aid in an attempt to create an interesting Fire Forest in the caves… ( )

2-2-20: After the mess back at the Lair, it is almost a relief for all those who competed in the Winter Games this year to indulge in the (relatively) simple task of breaking down camp while waiting for their results… ( )

2-7-20: Whether or not Nebula’s fury at having her potions stores raided by her own Goddaughter had an impact on the team’s score is now a moot point. The team was blown away by some very fierce competition, and simply could not make it to the Winner’s Podium this year. The defeat was a harsh one, but Nebula is taking comfort in the knowledge that none of her teammates made any mistakes in their own performance. The team was simply outplayed, pure and simple. Next year they will do better. And in the meantime, she has some things to say to Samhain about the difference between “borrowing with permission” and “stealing rare and almost irreplaceable ingredients behind a dragon’s back”…

5-24-20: The parents of Nebula’s apprentice have returned to the Clan--or in the case of Amara, Vitriola’s mother, have come for the first time--and Nebula is rather impressed. Not by the dragons themselves. AquaRega has never been anything special, and Amara leaves a great deal to be desired…although Nebula must admit that the two must possess something in order to have produced such a fascinating specimen as Vitriola…but what has truly impressed Nebula was the rather intricate web of spells and potions that the two were caught up in when they arrived. “Love Potion” is rather too mundane a word for that concoction, but it does describe the effects rather well.

Nebula had considered, briefly, leaving things as is, as it would have been quite delightful to watch Cadmia’s reaction to AquaRegia’s complete infatuation with Amara….but Vitriola would not have liked it if either of her parents were hurt, and Nebula needs her apprentice able to concentrate on her work, and not on the problems of the young Bogsneak’s father. So Nebula has dragged both the fools over to the Healerie to have them flushed of the potions and freed of the spells. And someday she may just take a journey to the Plague Clan Vitriola was born in, and see if she can find the dragon who created that wonderful web. A mind like that might just be worthy of her attention, and a far more in-depth tutelage than the sadly far too innocent Vitriola could ever hope to achieve…

8-23-20: Nebula is not usually one to leave the Clan for warmer climates, but this year’s theme for the Flameforger’s Festival simply could not be ignored. How could she stay home when the Flight was engaging in a Cooking Extravaganza? So now she is wandering through the stalls, looking for some new ingredients… ( , )
….and what a treasure she has found! Her new bottles from that odd Forge will go a long way towards helping to restock her depleted stores. ( ) Now if only she can find some belladonna to go with these wonderful mushrooms and bugs…

1-29-21: The Sornieth Games have returned to the Crystalline Gala for another year, and Nebula and her team have once again entered the lists for Curling. Most of the Clan is focused on the award that Emerald, the Clan’s determined luge competitor, will be receiving for her dedication to coming to the Games every single year since the start. Nebula, however, is far more interested in her own Event. Perhaps this will be the year that the team will finally win Gold!

Unfortunately, things have not gotten off to a good start, as Alakazam, one of Nebula’s teammates, went missing in action for several hours, along with the Curling brooms that he was supposed to be picking up. And now that he has finally showed, the irresponsible fool has brought back 4 mugs of cocoa, which he apparently thought were important enough to warrant almost missing the team’s start time. Nebula is NOT amused… ( )

…Fortunately, despite the intolerable delay, Al HAS managed to return in time, and even remembered to bring the brooms back with him. As for the cocoa, the Skydancer was smart enough, to Nebula’s surprise, to think to cast a warming charm on the mugs, so his long delay has not been totally wasted. While the team has no time to enjoy the uniquely flavored treat before the match--and Nebula can not deny that a liver and onions cocoa IS a treat--Al's warming charm and Jasper’s protective circle around the table together mean that the team will be able to sip their cocoa after they finish competing. All the same, that fool Skydancer should not have wasted their valuable practice time on such a frivolity. Unfortunately, the team Captain does not seem to think she should discipline Alakazam for it, so Nebula will simply have to channel her anger into the game….

2-5-21: Whether it was Nebula’s anger lending that extra oomph to her strikes, or the team’s chemistry aligning almost perfectly this year, or perhaps, just perhaps, the cocoa giving them some extra energy, Nebula isn’t sure, but something went right this year, as the team has won second place! ( ) Nebula is extremely pleased, and even managed to swallow her annoyance with Alakazam enough to agree with Bombarda’s suggestion that the male Skydancer should be the one to accept the second place trophy for the team. ( ) This, of course, is simply because it was Al’s turn in the rotation, and has nothing to do with that offer of cocoa, whatever anyone else may suggest…

2-6-21: Now that all the furor has died down, Nebula is relaxing in the lair, enjoying her new silver medal, and the Opulent Nightshade Locket that the team was gifted as a prize. There is no doubt in her mind who should wear that particular lovely piece of booty, and fortunately, the rest of the team agrees with her. Perhaps it is time she sets aside her goggles for something a little more…interesting….
