"Never judge a dragon by his colours"

"Let me get this straight...", Mirrest sneered, looking at the Coatl's red coloured plume, "You're applying for the position of Head Fisher?"
"That's correct." Sanguim replied, not reacting to the Mirror's clear amusement of the situation.
Mirrest reluctantly handed over the paperwork, Sanguim filled it out.

There were in total four dragons who had applied, the other three had blue tones to them. Sanguim wasn't in the least bit intimidated or nervous about it.

"The task is simple"Mirrest told them all once the paperwork had been sorted, "We'll head to the nearest fishing stream, and the dragon who catches the bigger amount to feed us all will be our new head fisher!" Sangium didn't miss the look he gave his son, Eilern, one that almost said, 'I'm counting on you, son, make that Coatl rue his decision.'

Their time started, and three dragons dived straight into the stream. Sangium didn't. He walked along the bank, watching the fish below the surface.
He heard Mirrest jeer, "This should be entertaining!"

It didn't put him off though. He continued to watch the fish, aware that the other dragons had already started pulling out their first lot of catch, and were heading into the water again. He dived in, hardly making a splash, and threw out one, two, three, four, five fish - each one landing on the grassy bank flopping and gasping for air. He came out of the water with an arm full of mussels and plopped them on top of the fish, which were now fighting for their final breaths. Back into the water he went, Five more fish came flying out of the water in quick succession.

The dragons on the surface were cheering him on! All except Mirrist and Mirrest, who glared towards their son. He was not catching the fish as fast as Sangium was. They were not pleased.

Once their time was up, there were two very impressive piles of seafood. Sanguim's and Eilern's. Once Mirrest had counted up Eilern's - a very impressive 25 fish and 60 mussels - he came to Sanguim, who was busy preparing the fish ready for the feast tonight.

Reluctantly, Mirrest announced, "Our new head fisher is Sanguim, by 15 fish and 20 mussels!" He growled and stalked away from Sanguim.

He walked up to Eilern, who was looking horribly disappointed with himself. "That was a good run, Eilern. You should be pleased with yourself. Would you join me with my fishing scouts - we could use a fisher like you!" Eilern growled viciously at him, took a fish between his barred teeth, and surprising everyone watching, flew off.

Sangium shrugged and walked off. Wise enough to know he'd have to play it safe and not make himself a target for the Mirrors' anger. That said, he was very pleased with himself.
