Real monsters aren't always the ones with gnarled claws and yellow teeth...
The real monsters are often the ones with the perfect white smile, the perfect laugh, and the perfect, ever so perfect black heart hidden under pleasantries and kindness.

Drake knows this. How could he not? It was in every folktale, every cautionary piece of fiction, every fictitious lie... And very much in reality.
He saw it in other dragons, in his friends.
Sometimes, he even saw it in himself, and that terrified him to no end.

Being gifted with the ability to discern a fragment of the intentions of others, to see a small piece of their mind, Drake took quickly to the false realities of books and stories, attracting the company of youth wishing to hear his endless supply of gripping tales; The princesses and the champions, the treasures and the deep dark sea, the legends and the classics... He knew them all, and he could whisk one out of his mind to tell on a whim, shadow puppets and silhouettes his prime method of visualizing his tale for those who listened.

He put his heart and soul into his stories, as it was all an elaborate distraction after all, from the horrors that could very well be walking alongside him, and if doing so made them all disappear, even if only for a short time, Drake would continue as he did.
