One of the younger sons of the Executioner and the Deathcaller, Maynard was born deep within Foxfire Bramble nests alongside his twin, Iachoku. As hatchlings, the two were nearly inseparable; however, when they grew older, and it became apparent that Iachoku did not possess the magic she so idolized about their mother, she grew spiteful and resentful toward her, as well as their older sister. These feelings grew so great, she followed their father back into the depths of the Abyss, while Maynard remained in the shadows.

Among a family full of death-dealers, Maynard is somewhat of an oddity. His is a gentle and compassionate soul; and though he trained among the ranks of the warriors, he does not seem to possess the strength his father and siblings have. He is determined, and tries his best, but is often found injured and bandaged; many wonder if he truly has the heart for combat, but there is certainly something to be respected about a dragon that won't give up.

Though his determination is admirable, that doesn't make him feel much better about the situation. Ultimately, with each injury, he feels more and more as if he is failing his family. Okkervil may be somewhat of a black sheep among the family, too, but he was never bothered by it the way Maynard seems to be.

Maynard is particularly passionate about poetry and music, often writing poems or songs for and about his fellow warriors. It was something he was embarrassed by, at first, but after being asked to read some of his work, the warriors found themselves invigorated and excited for battle.
