"Why settle for being cured of an illness when you can avoid it altogether?"

The line between confidence and arrogance is one Kenji crosses daily. He came to the clan needing shelter, but demanded to stay once he finally shut up long enough to hear that the purpose of the clan was to heal. Honestly, he didn't know why it didn't occur to him just how necessary an herbalist of his calibre was in this horrid place. Sure, the Plague residents in the Refuge looked healthy enough, but every dragon on Sornieth knew that they were rife with disease no matter their outward appearance.

Clearly, he had to stay to help the poor souls that came here to heal, lest they catch something the Plague dragons were carrying in the meantime. Kenji couldn't tell exactly how the clan leader had felt about his insistence on staying–Faes were awful conversationists–but she let him move into one of the clay homes on the upper floors of the residential buildings, though not before a rather suspect process of collecting a vial of his blood.

In reality, Zarim allowed him to stay because she could tell he would not cease annoying her until she agreed to his..."request". Thankfully, her patients appreciated having someone who could provide poultices and salves for their less than pleasant symptoms while they waited to recover. The healer was talented, but she couldn't exactly banish their symptoms at will.

Medical herbalism is about as popular as one would expect in the diseased land of the Plaguebringer. Between the standard "endure or die" mentality and general negativity surrounding healers and their supposed weakening of Plague, it's a wonder any dragon would come here to practice such a craft. However, Kenji thrived on spite, and the naysayers could eat snail dung when he proved them wrong.

The Shifting Expanse had been an equally awful place to attempt growing herbs. The soil was arid, stripped of minerals, and half the seedlings that managed to sprout at all quickly died in the electricity-charged air. The only plant Kenji ever got to grow in number were aloe vera plants and some decorative cacti, and there was little need for that when most dragons in the area were immune to electrical burns anyway. Trade with clans in the Ashfall Waste brought in a small amount of coin, but not enough for the Wildclaw to feel truly proud of it.

His clan was even less impressed by that meager income. The seeds and bulbs he requested cost more than he ever brought in, and he rarely managed to coax anything into growing. A request he put in for a small greenhouse was denied almost instantaneously.

"Why should we throw more resources into those worthless projects!? If you want to continue these pointless endeavors, then it's time to find your own funds."

Frustrated and out of supplies, Kenji decided he wouldn't get anywhere with his clan being so stingy. Well, he'd prove it was their loss. He gathered the last of the aloe paste into his pack along with as many food rations he could buy with what was left of his treasure before saying his goodbyes and heading out into the Ashfall Wastes. He could sell his goods and hopefully gather enough to pay for transportation to the Viridian Labyrinth. Surely nowhere could be better for growing plants than a lush, healthy jungle.
Who knew the raiding life was still alive and well in the Scarred Wasteland? Not the merchant Kenji had hitched a ride with apparently. After their cart had been stolen, along with everything on it, he and his former transportation were stranded in the middle of the Abiding Boneyard. Given how insistent the merchant was that this was the fastest route and how it was "completely safe", Kenji was understandably displeased. He couldn't even ask for a refund now since all their treasure was gone somewhere in the wastes.

The merchant assured him there was a clan nearby that would house them until he could find another way to get to the Labyrinth. The Wildclaw trusted her about as far as he could throw her, but following the Nocturne was his only option at this point. Obviously he wasn't going to try his luck in this hellish territory by himself, so he agreed to go to this supposed "friendly Plague clan" she seemed so sure about, though not without complaining the entire way.
