The EmotoCaster

Hatched from a mysterious egg found in an abandoned nest, Vanitas immediately knew she was different. The nest had been covered in a thick, black goo, along with her egg. She wouldn't find out her true origins for many years to come, though she never felt too concerned with the matter.

Having hatched alone in the middle of the Tangled Wood, the closest food source was several patches of glowing, blue-green mushrooms. She ate them for some time, never knowing the effects it was having on her appearance. Most other dragons that would see her knew exactly what her diet consisted of based on the blue-green glow around her eyes and across her body. The warnings that flittered around the Wood stating "Don't eat the Glowshrooms" had a much more innocent reasoning behind it, though many believed they were poisonous.

As she grew, she met more and more dragons. She eventually began to notice a trend with all whom she met: they always seemed to be feeling the same way she was feeling. Upon this realization, she began to experiment with a theory that had flittered through her mind. Whenever she saw a strangers, she would think of a certain emotion, sometimes happy or sad, sometimes angry or tranquil, sometimes excited or disappointed. Whenever she thought of these emotions, the nearby dragon would seem to change their mood suddenly and without reason. She could cast her emotions onto anyone she wanted.

This newfound ability to affect others confused and amazed her. She knew that wonderful, or terrible, things could come from this. It all depended on how she decided to use this ability. Terrified and confused at the prospect of becoming an evil caster, she decided to roam the Wood for a while, exploring the various clans to discover other information.

While wandering through a seemingly quiet, dark area with no clan evident, she happened upon a brilliant light emanating from around some bushes. She slowly crept around the corner to find a male Nocturne sleeping in a makeshift nest of dirt and leaves. His brilliant Ice-colored hide was incredible. She had never seen anything like it before and immediately knew that they would become inseparable. It was he who would guide her along the righteous path and prevent her from going astray. His ability to cast vivid dreams would also help her discover her origins: a spawn of the Shadowbinder herself.

This news brought both happiness and fear, as she now worried that she would let her Mother down. It wasn't until one fateful day while her clan was vying for dominance that she finally knew how she was meant to use her gift. Across the Wood, a familiar voice was heard by all dragons from every clan. It was indistinguishable, but every dragon knew who it was and what it was instructing. Dragons from every clan flooded the Forum of the Obscured Crescent, where Vanitas would speak to them. She spoke of a new initiative for the Shadow flight called the Eclipse Initiative. Her speech, along with her ability to cast her emotions to others, instilled confidence, bravery, and inspiration through every last dragon. Though they may not have won that battle, the war was far from over for her. She now had a burning glow inside of her that pushed her to represent her flight in any way possible.

This drive pushed her to apply for participation in the Great Flameforge Joust, where she was chosen as a representative of her beloved flight. With honor and loyalty in her mind and heart, she headed off to prepare for the ensuing challenge.

Vanitas was one of 12 lucky dragons chosen to represent Shadow flight in the Great Flameforge Joust! She was honored to be chosen and looked forward to the opportunity to prove herself as more than just a speaker able to woo a crowd.

At the end of the first day, she is disappointed that she did not get to battle an opponent, but happy to be able to enjoy the next day of competition! Hopefully she is able to prove herself worthy of the name Shadowbinder Noc.

On the second day of the joust, her opponent was present and she finally got the chance to prove herself. Unfortunately, against the advice of her mate and clan, she let her excitement get the best of her (something that rarely happens as she can typically keep herself in check) and misused her powers by using them with too much strength. The overconfidence that it created led to her downfall and she was defeated.

When returning to her clan, Namine spoke with her again about the importance of moderating and controlling her casting ability. The others reinforced this point with her, as well. She promised herself to be more aware of this and to hone her control even further.

On the third day of the joust, Vanitas was surprised and elated to hear the possibility of her previous opponent's forfeit when they did not show up to the match. She hurriedly prepared to take up arms against her new opponent.

When she arrived at the arena, she was distraught to find her opponent was Crius, a proper gentleman from ally clan Dreamer's Reprise. Her excitement dashed as she knew this meant she would be battling a friend of the clan, she regained her composure and worked out a strategy to defeat the Imp. While overuse of her casting would surely lead to her downfall again, she strategically targets Crius' confidence, throwing him into a defensive strategy. His defenses were quite the challenge, but she thought this would help quell any negative thoughts regarding her skill. Her victory was difficult to achieve, but she is satisfied with her performance.

Though she is excited and elated at her fortune, she cannot ignore the whispers from the crowd, and even some of the staff. She hears the rumors of foul play claiming the misuse of her powers to cause her opponents to forfeit. She reassures anyone who will listen that she would never do such a thing outside of battle and has continued to learn her lesson. The misuse and overuse of her emotocasting has only brought her negativity. She looks forward to the next round and is anxious to see who her next opponent is!

On the fourth day of the tourney, Vanitas has had enough of hearing the rumors. She decides that if she wants to quell the comments, she must rely on her battle prowess alone to win the next battle. Throughout the match, she has many moments of weakness where she prepares to use her casting to adjust her opponent's stability, but she catches herself and abstains. She fights through the match, struggling to resist the temptation of her power, but emerges victorious!

Remembering the importance of using her powers to help other dragons rather than for personal gain, she approaches her opponent with some kind words about their battle. As she leaves them, she uses her powers to build them up rather than break them down. She immediately feels a surge of positivity flow through her, though she knows this was not her own doing, but the feeling of righteousness.

A bond has been formed outside the arena, as well. Her fellow Shadowling, Lilith, has also progressed to the Quarterfinals and they have decided to support each other through to the end!

The fifth day brings both excitement and worry. There are only 8 challengers left and 2 of them are children of the Shadowbinder. There is a high chance that they will face off against each other in the arena. She tries to quell this concern, citing that there are still 6 other competitors so the odds are in her favor.

Unfortunately, the odds appear to be against her as she finds Lilith at the other end of the pitch. Though they both are valiant and skilled fighters, Vanitas' choice of Lance proves to be the downfall in the match. Pitted against Lilith's Iron lance, Vanitas had no chance. Unfortunately this is the end of the road for her.

After the match, she assures Lilith that there is no negativity between them. She will support Lilith to the end of the joust and assist in calming her nerves, should the need arise. Vanitas keeps her vow and assists Lilith in her next battle by calming her and reinforcing the adrenaline that is powering her fury. Unfortunately, the Arcane dragon at the other end of the lance overpowers them and Shadow is knocked out of the joust.

A strong bond has been created, though, and the MoonsEnvoy clan shall always have the support of Vanitas and her fellow clanmates. An unstoppable alliance has been created and the next flight to oppose Shadow in a dominance battle had best be prepared for the fight of their life.

A vast darkness spread across the world, leaving only those who thrived in darkness to help defend Sornieth. A great battle was forged above and within the Tangled Wood against the mysterious creature known as The Shade. This time, it appeared to everyone in the form of the Shadowbinder herself!

Once the False Shadowbinder was defeated, our dear Mother was freed and normalcy once again returned across Sornieth.
