I put too much effort into this to delete it now, but don't take it too seriously haha.
The benefits of Dom have, for a long time, been meaningless. Dom discounts aren't worth the money to seasoned players with millions of treasure. Maybe for lair expansions, though G&G have made even those treasure pits relatively easy. The bragging rights and glory of a well fought battle were what drove people to do Dom. Are those still worth the effort? Is it tradition and the idea that we need to have conquest battles to clear out the AH, when what people seem to really want is to profit push or take part in oof raffles, still worth it?
Dom is a changed game, and the current Dom meta focuses a LOT on mercenaries and raffles for conquest pushes. It's different from how it used to be, when flights went up against each other while training their own fodder to exalt and emptying the AH. Now it's the whole site participating in Dom and trying to win the raffles. Hibernal dens filled to the brim with sleeping dragons to send over to the conquesting flight with the best prizes of rare retired items. It is exhausting running raffles and accepting CRs compared to the days when everyone would send out well-timed waves of dragons to flip the board, even going so far as to 'exalt the fridge.'
I saw some people talking about how well run Earth's Dom system is compared to other flights, of course it is! Earth is the most dom-focused flight! But don't get me wrong, it is not a coincidence that the smallest flight is one of the most well organized in a fight where they already have the advantage. Competitive players who want to win Dom flock to Earth. The small size and the effectiveness in Dom go hand in hand, and there is nothing really wrong with people taking advantage of that. The system at its base rewards smaller flights, and competitive players use that.
Compare Earth to a large flight like Arcane or Shadow (both respectively around 5x the size of Earth). They'd have enough trouble coordinating a large group to overcome the active members nerf, nevermind actually getting people to participate when they are demoralized by the size disadvantage or so distanced from the Dom scene that they don't even check the Flight's Dominance forum. I'd be surprised if new members to the very large flights get interested in Dom at all with how the game is stacked against their involvement. Any potential battle between one of the smallest flights and one of the largest is laughably unrealistic because of the clear advantage one has over the other, if not physically then psychologically.
Is there anything that can be done to fix the current Dom model? I don't know. The nerf on large flights was made for a very good reason, but doesn't take into account how many people are actively taking part in Dom. There isn't a healthy solution to that problem. The admins would only be able to help by making new rules or changing things in the code, which would only make people angry. The flights could come together to coordinate something like reasonable oof raffles, but even then it would still be unbalanced.
In the end, it's up to the individual flights on whether or not they want to put forth the effort to have a Dom scene
