Golden claws scrape against the ground as Alcor wanders through the cathedral’s marble halls. Song and dance echo from the theater as performers glance nervously towards the Imperial before adverting their gaze and continuing with rehearsals. “Don’t let him see you pause” they whisper as the golden dragon continues down the hall. His reflection wavers past as cautious eyes watch from somewhere beyond the mirror-like walls. The faeries and goblins whisper, “not even magic can protect you from his gaze”. Alcor hums. On he walks, head held high as he descends into the labyrinth of catacombs that twist beneath the cathedral. The librarians hear him coming and hasten their work. “Least he is inclined to believe that we are stalling”. He pauses for a moment to observe their progress before continuing onwards, his luminous form fading into the dark tunnels. Sighs of relief echo with his passing. “For no one can save you from his wrath”.

Once he has surveyed the cathedral, Alcor always finds himself standing before a golden door, light flooding from the keyhole as he approaches. The door can be found in the depths of the catacombs, or covered in tangled vines within the expansive gardens. Sometimes it appears in the cathedral’s upper halls, as the closet in a vacant guest room or a storage locker branching from an empty ballroom. Even in plain sight, few seem to notice the door’s existence and, even if they did, it remains tightly shut. There was never a key to such a door. . . but in Alcor’s presence, it slowly creaks open.

It is called the Golden Room; a strange and ever-changing place containing a single plinth that radiates light. An equally luminous statue rests atop the pillar, its golden form twisted around the column as it stares downward with bright, intelligent eyes. It is here that Alcor bows. . .
