Biography

Marrakesh
tempestuous heart

7287.png
Marrakesh burns—everything about her is hot, from her smoldering colors to her passion for battle to her notorious temper. Though stunningly beautiful, she is not at all popular; even when she isn't angry, her moody intensity tends to make other dragons uncomfortable. And she's frequently angry. She holds onto a simmering resentment over the fact that the clan chief, Keri, doesn't consider her part of the official Kerei bloodline, since she's the egg daughter of his grandson Sern's partner and not actually of Sern himself, and this resentment bursts out in rage over any perceived slight or disappointment. To be fair, she turns her anger on herself almost as often; a perfectionist, she drives herself hard and excoriates herself over what she sees as failures. She's self-aware enough to realize that her temper drives away potential friends, but she doesn't really know how else to be.

She's able to work off some of her ferocity in battle, at least—she's a member of one of the second-tier coli teams with Cinder and Virenze, and she has ambitions to equal or surpass the status of Sekhet's team. At times she gets rather frustrated, though, as her team's personalities and combat styles tend to clash. Virenze, who's more of a strategist, tries to direct them in combat, while she has little patience for this and tends to rush forward into battle; she wants him to take on support role instead, focusing on healing and rallying, which he objects to on the principle that it means she considers him a resource rather than an equal partner. Meanwhile Cinder favors a subtle, stealthy approach that tends to get steamrolled in the heat of the moment; plus he finds her annoyingly overbearing. They've been doing better of late, but they have the potential to be much more successful than they are.

The only dragons that she gets along with reasonably well are her immediate family: she's closest to her egg-father, Alicorne, who has seemingly endless patience with her and whose calm presence makes her feel like a child again, safe and loved, but she secretly adores her adoptive sister, Sunshine, and although her feelings for Sern and his egg-daughter, Elise, are complicated, for the most part she's comfortable with them. (Her repartee with Elise does sometimes get a little cutting, but Elise gives as good as she gets.) Marrakesh had a fling with a transient skydancer, which resulted in two daughters, but although she wants more children someday, she admits that she doesn't have the time or patience for them right now.

Facts
– Is somewhat vain about the figure she cuts in her coppery-gold battle armor, and adds to it with amber flourish jewelry. (Cinder thinks this is ridiculously flashy and impractical.)
– Is the second-largest imperial in the clan, second only to Seishirou, which makes her fits of rage all the more alarming.
– She fought as Ikaroa's champion in his duel against Tegid, facing off against one of her coli rivals, Tegid's daughter Taiissa. (Ikaroa slyly got on her good side by sympathizing with her over the bloodline issue.) The battle was fierce and brutal, and she viciously slashed her opponent's face before the fight was stopped by Taiissa's daughter Joyous. In the end the duel was dismissed without a winner. Marrakesh feels a confusing mixture of guilt and frustration about the whole thing, but refuses to talk about it.
– Her eyes light up in a rather disturbing way when her team finds treasure, and she likes to fondle the coins.

Fictions

Familiar
Her umberhorn qiriq, Bathari, is equally moody and has been known to be aggressive toward other familiars (and even toward dragons). Her serpentine lamp isn't much better.
