Discovered lost in the Labyrinth as a new hatchling, Tāwhiri's first few months were a struggle. Their legs were damaged in the same raging river that claimed their parents, and the subsequent exposure to the elements caused them to heal poorly. They find it difficult now to walk without braces (though these are usually disguised as armor). Sorcha forged the first set for them, but now as an apprentice blacksmith Tāwhiri makes and repairs their own equipment.

They've lived with Sorcha ever since they were brought to the clan, and receiving the recent title of "apprentice blacksmith" was more of a formality than anything - having been training and completing jobs for the blacksmith for a long while before that.

But Tāwhiri is not just training to be the next blacksmith. Sorcha is young yet and it's unlikely that her boots will ever need filling. Instead, Tāwhiri is learning the skills to then pursue their own interest: mechanics. They've observed Elysia's experiments as well as Sorcha's constructions and think something great could be achieved by combining the two arts.

Tāwhiri's other passion is more secretive, but no less important to them. They collect and care for small reptiles. At first they tried to hide them from Sorcha, but it became harder and harder to explain how salamanders had found their way into the forge, or what a burnserpent was doing coiled beneath a smoking pile of leaves in their lair. Sorcha laughed when she finally discovered her young charge's secret and was more than happy to allow them to continue - as long as they kept them out of her work areas.

Tāwhiri's gender is nonbinary and they are pansexual and panromantic.
