The Water Snake subspecies (so named for its serpentine appearance) originated in the Sea of a Thousand Currents, though the exact details of their creation are shrouded in mystery. They are generally peaceful, wise creatures who prefer to live in shallow waters rather than the deeper depths, making their homes near the shore of the sea or in gentle streams or quiet coves where they diligently study herbal lore. Many from all over Sornieth seek them out for their healing skills, but they can be very difficult to find as they are easily startled by noise and their vibrant colors blend in surprisingly well to hide in their serene shallow-water homes. The fortunate dragon who does manage to find one, though, has only to ask to get a remedy for nearly anything. Curiously, Water Snakes have been observed to cure and heal just as well as any magic without using magic at all, just potions, tinctures and balms of various herbs.

This subspecies has pronounced fangs and can defend themselves perfectly well when necessary, but they prefer to avoid conflict when possible. Despite their snake-like appearance, they are not venomous, but their bodies do naturally produce and secrete a liquid with medicinal properties. Aquatic and semi-aquatic life, both plant and animal alike, flourishes in areas with resident Water Snakes.
