Circuitshell - Guard of the Circuitwood
Some time ago, a few of Mordecai’s nanobots escaped. They colonised an area of the glen near the Blue Tower and quickly began integrating into the local flora and fauna. Normally such an infection would be scoured from the Gladekeeper’s realm, but a few of the dragons, including the clan patriarch Sen, were curious about this new form of life. Sen went to the Gladekeeper and asked for the new life to be left to flourish, upon the promise of his clan keeping it contained within the glen. The Gladekeeper assented, with a caveat: any electronic life found to be potentially deleterious to normal life would need to be monitored and, as necessary, eliminated. Satisfied with the conditions of the agreement, Sen and the Blackwaters drew out where the boundaries of the area would be. They dubbed the area “Circuitwoods”, and the organisms within “elife” [e-life], short for “electronic life” (creative, I know). Dragons were recruited to patrol the border, the primary dragons being One and Zero and the offspring of the pair. Altogether, the guards of the Circuitwoods are called Circuitshells. Their job is to ensure elife does not exit the Circuitwoods. Zero and One were born with a trait (Circuit) believed to have originated from the Stormcatcher’s realm, which imbued them with an affinity for technology. This trait makes traversing the Circuitwoods instinctive, and imparts a small level of resistance to nanobot conversion. Genes applied to them (Crystal and Facet) have hardened their hides, and in some places have complexed with their inborn trait to create ports on their body where wires can be attached. They still need regular decon to remove excess elife, and injections of Boolean venom disable any internal nanobots. |
