Glass. More than anything, Lophiola was intrigued by glass. Maybe it was the way she was born with crystal skin that itself sparkled and reflected in the sun, or how interesting it was that something so small and inconsequential as a grain of sand could turn into something so different from itself. How strong glass was, how utterly breakable.

Her friends always teased that she should have gone to work with the Flamecaller, to work with other dragons who used heat to forge metals. Or perhaps the Lightning Expanse would have her - while Loph often worked to make miniature figures and trinkets out of glass, she most liked the science behind optics. Making lenses for dragons whose vision was poor, for instance, was a great application of glass that few dragons truly understood.

Light magic, she found - with all its innate refractions and reflections and blazing blindness - was perfect for glass-working. But still, she was curious. Lophiola decided to leave her clan and travel, hoping to find others from whom she could learn techniques, or those who would be interested in absorbing her own knowledge.
