Biography

There's always something to discover!

First Clan

Written by Adu for the Dragon Builder Swap

Ziya.... is different from her siblings. The eldest of her clutchmates went off to find honor in a Plague clan, while her brother settled into a small Arcane clan, given the freedom to stay true to his Fire roots. Ziya, though... was not so lucky. She first found shelter in a large wind clan, but they could not care for her- And so she left again, flying until she came across a secluded Arcane den. The clan was notorious for taking in stray and stragglers, and so the small nocturne was no different, and was brought in with love.

This was a mistake.

Ziya was truly Fire bred. Not skilled at a forge, no, and while she had prowess in magic, it was not Fire-based. Instead, the fire lives within her, generating a ferocity and drive that's nigh unmatched. She will study and develop her magic for days, going weeks without food or sleep if it means perfecting the next magic bolt. The clan leader often found her passed out on her studies and ingredients, only to snap to attention in the next hour to quickly throw together a spell. Ziya would dash from place to place, trying out her magic, or asking the other mages for advice- Or demanding the skills of the other coliseum veterans to test out her newest attack.

The other dragons would do their best to help her, asking her to join for dinner, suggesting sleep and rest. But Ziya ignored them all- Sleep? There were far more important things to do than sleep! Oh, but the worst was when dragons would come poking into her space, asking what she was doing, what that thing meant- Touching things! Touching her things! Oh! Then was when one could tell, could really, really tell, that she was a Fire dragon, snarling and raging like the best, lashing out with whatever newly-found spell she had.

When a magic bolt of hers flew stray, though, sparking to the ground far too close to one of the young hatchlings, the clan leader decided enough was enough. The other nocturne landed, roaring loud enough to match a guardian, demanding that Ziya, though young, leave the clan. The dragoness was afraid, yes, but took wing and fled, searching for her next home.

As she passed over the Lightweaver's domain, she noticed a clan buzzing with energy. And... spirals. So many spirals! Twirling about and twisting as they went about their tasks. Those weren't dragons who would rest, or sit still... or hamper her goals. Ziya didn't think twice- She had to join that clan!

Sunshower Settlement

The following written by cinderrain

In the end, it was because the clan was full of Spirals that Ziya encountered her first obstacles. No clan, no matter how hardworking or purposeful, can survive for long off of bright-eyed tenacity alone. This clan, though its core is fast-moving Spirals and their kin, picked up other kinds of dragons as it grew. The sorts of dragons who would balance out the energy to make sure no one burned out; the mediators and the parenting types, the soft-spoken leaders and the ones whose wisdom came from observing rather than experimenting.

Ziya thought, at first, that it would be a repeat of her last clan. She would grow to hate it here, confined and held back, and then they would grow to hate her.

She thought wrong. Used to dealing with tempers and awkward geniuses, a few dragons formed a little supporting group around Ziya to help her settle in. Among them was Caenurgina. Ziya's first impression of her was that she might hail from Earth or Nature - whenever she looked, the Imperial was practically buried in dead leaves and soil. More than once, Ziya's watched Cae get stepped on because she was lying so still and blending so well.

Ziya didn't so much settle as stop grinding at the edges of the Settlement's system so much, learning how to stay out of the way and do her own thing where she wouldn't be interrupted. The welcoming crew dispersed, slowly, latching onto other agitated newcomers. Caenurgina stayed.

This is where it all comes apart, Ziya would think every time she glanced over at Cae lounging just out of sight - she had a knack for knowing where Ziya's peripheral ended, and staying just out of that range but still unmistakably present. This is where she drags me down like cobwebs, and I will do something dangerous and they will ask me to leave.

Cae doesn't. Instead, she unfurls, slow like the sunrise on a misty morning - showing Ziya bit by bit how much she'd held back for the welcoming group and how much she aches just like Ziya to do what she wants.

The first time she caught a glimpse of that wild could-care-less grin paired with those - oh, not Nature, Wind - eyes, Ziya fell hard.

Courting

Knowing is the tip of the scrap-metal-heap: now Ziya has to decide what she's going to do about it.
