Shadeholders are dragon skins embodied by the Shade. When a dragon dies, the Shade can reincarnate it and use the body to its own benefit. They are essentially the Shade with the ability to walk, talk, and think. They have a hive mind ultimately controlled by the first Shadeholder to ever exist - a Skydancer named Naomi. They are more intelligent in groups, but they often prefer to work alone. A Shadeholder is able to cause conflict in clans by shadetouching a dragon. If a Shadeholder causes a war to break out between clans, any dragons who are killed in the battle surrender the years of life they would have had remaining had they not died in battle to the Shadeholder who caused it. Causing conflict is how Shadeholders keep their dragon bodies youthful. Shadeholders are tricky and maniacal, and they believe that they are god-like. They refer to themselves as "Prophets of the Shade" or simply "The Prophets." It is common for Shadeholders to take after bits of their body's original owner's personality. Easily amused, Chausiku is determinedly simple-minded and simple to please. Perhaps the greatest trickster of all Shadeholders, Chausiku takes pride in his intricate means of causing chaos. Chausiku takes particular interest in the unofficial festival of Halloween, celebrated by many clans in late October. This night, referred to by many as 'fright night' or 'beggar's night,' is when young dragons wander around Sornieth, hoping to earn themselves some treats and create new alliances with neighboring clans. Chausiku observed how many dragons would gift foods of all sorts to these beggars and decided to have a bit of fun with it. His dark complexion made it easy for him to slip through the shadows and exchange a dragon's pile of crunchy moth legs for some ill-prepared or poisonous cuisine. He also finds joy in dressing as menacingly as possible and spooking young hatchlings, perhaps even to death. Chausiku is proud and greedy, but too lazy to work very hard for himself. His terrible tricks during this one night scare-fest take enough lives that he can afford to spend the rest of his days lounging around. In fact, aside from the holiday, he rarely interferes with other dragons except when he gets a particular, unquenchable taste for blood. The haughty and mysterious Shadeholder is among the ranks of the most terrifying, and he is sure to take your breath away... perhaps permanently. |
