Carina had trained herself to rise with the moon and stars long before she ever officially occupied the post of chief astronomer. The night sky and its workings have held Carina’s attention captive ever since she was a hatchling, and she’s since dedicated her entire life to studying them--so much so that she actively seeks to incorporate the heavens into her appearance and clothing. She’s mapped the stars above Soi Horai for years, and she holds a deep understanding of their patterns of movement.

The nature of her position allows her to keep to herself, which she vastly prefers. She tends to find earthly matters tiresome and boring, and therefore usually chooses to distance herself from from the routine of day-to-day clan matters. The one exception is her mate, Deneb, the hardworking senior undersecretary to the prime minister, whom she loves dearly. The two complement each other well--while she keeps him from losing himself too much in his work, he reminds her that there is life on the ground to return to.

Carina’s magic is weaker than it is in most skydancers, but it has never been a hindrance to her work. She considers herself first and foremost a scholar, and therefore holds little regard for matters of magic and spirituality. In spite of her preference for numbers and cold, hard facts, she also has an active and expansive imagination that is fueled by the wonder and respect she holds for the stars.
