Bellus was born and raised in the Great Furnace. He was a child of two venerable Guardians, and served under the Flamecaller herself for many years. Eventually, like all guardians, he felt his calling to go and find his charge. He tearfully left his Diety's side and began his search. It took him less than a month to come upon a golden Guardian, passed out on the edge of the Flamecaller's domain. The moment he set eyes on her, he knew that she was his charge. He spent the next weeks teaching her how to survive in the molten land he called home. Soon she discovered her calling: to bring life into the borderland of the Hearth. After a while, dragons drifted into their little clan, and together they worked to grow their small plot of land into something that could feed all the dragons within the land. Bellus is a perfect example of a loud and passionate Fire Flight dragon. He is stubborn and authoritative, not afraid to get into fights or speak his mind. Unlike Mellona, who is sweet and caring almost to a fault, Bellus seems harsh and abrasive. He cares deeply for Mellona and will do anything to protect her, but he does not love her in the way that most people assume. They are not mates, nor do either of them feel any desire to be mates. Bellus finds himself far more attracted to other males, while Mellona feels love only for other females. This does not mean they don't love and care for each other, because they are both devoted to protecting one another in such a fierce way that most dragons assume they are mates. It is a type of love that is almost incomprehensible to dragons that aren't guardians. It is a love that one feels deep in one's soul that calls out to protect the other with all that you have. It is the love of a Guardian to their charge. When Apis established a sort of official order to things, Bellus was given the position of Head of Defense, as well as being second-in-command to Mellona. In reality, Apis does most of the administrative work, and the clan is small enough where the small groups of dragons that tend to the fields, animals, and fishing, need little oversight or command. Whatever Apis can't handle, she gives to Bellus. Usually, this means Bellus figures out the rough borders of the clan's territory and how they deal with other dragons wandering in. Usually the trespassers pass through with no need for interference, but if they stumble upon farmland or grazing land, whichever dragon is nearby will tell them where they are and that they're in the territory of The Clan of Milk and Honey. There hasn't been an issue yet, but Bellus has a feeling that as their clan grows, more issues will present themselves. For now, though, he makes sure everyone listens to Mellona and that no one starts any trouble, and if trouble comes to them? Well, then Bellus will deal with it in the same way he deals with all his problems: he'll light it on fire! |
