History

Everyone knows that Guardians are excellent killers. It’s pretty much a universal fact in Sornieth. With excellent physical attributes, there’s no better species to train as your own personal assassin. Evarado belonged to a clan that valued that knowledge. Since he was born, he was trained for battle, but he never got placed in a company. They saw something more.

The leader of his birth clan instead gave him a duty that he called “guard.” Young and naive at the time, that’s what Evarado thought it was. Simply guarding the territory from intruders. But his leader had a few hidden agendas that he didn’t bother to inform the young Guardian of.

Basically, Evarado grew from his teenage years into a young adult like any other dragon. It was then that the leader pointed him in the direction of the place he was supposed to be “guarding”. One would put guarding in quotations mostly because it was a job that could actually be considered more of a mercenary than a guard. He was often instructed to leave the territory at times.

Even when that wasn’t the case, this dragon wandered about freely. He did as he was told, never once questioning the morals of the leader who had protected him his entire life. What did he have to question? It was survive, do your job, protect your clan. His days were simple.

Evarado, one particular day, came home from his most recent outing to find the leader waiting for him. He ordered Evarado to go out and kill a rival clan leader. Now, the young guard finally began to form a protest in his mind. But his leader was convincing. After a pep talk that erased the resistance of the Guardian completely, Evarado set out to kill his first dragon. It was easy and quick. Over and done without an overabundance of emotion. That was that. Evarado went home.

There were three more completed assassinations after that. But then, on his fifth and final kill mission, he was sent out to kill a Mage in another clan. Word was that said Mage was planning an attack on the Cloudsong. Evarado went that way, but was intercepted by a hoard of dragons.

Naturally, he challenged them, even though there were obviously way too many. All of them looked just as strong as him. They glared at him hard until finally, he slowly backed down. The leader confronted him about being a killer, shooting down every lie Evarado had believed. Realizing what he’d been doing was wrong, he begged the clan leader for mercy.

The leader granted it, and the dragon Evarado had been meant to kill was exalted later anyway. He found a new home among the clan that had stopped him from completing his mission. His old leader came around once or twice in search of his mercenary, but thanks to the leader of his new clan, he was never found. After that, Evarado laid his murderous career to rest.

He soon fell in love with Copperclaw, another former mercenary in the clan. The two of them have made a home in their new clan, and neither of them, especially Evarado, would give it up for anything. He eventually moved on to scout the territory, as a real guard this time, and explore hidden parts of the clan’s range. All in all, his life now is a good one.

Personality

Evarado is one brave dragon. It takes a lot to scare him and even more to hurt him. He puts on a heartless front a lot of the time, due to the way he was raised. Growing up with an overly emotional state of mind was a weakness.

You had to learn to hide what you were feeling, otherwise someone could get to you. He’s not truly this way. He is faithful to his mate, Copperclaw, and would protect his clan with his life. This is partially because the scout is courageous beyond reason. It’s rare to see him not looking for an adventure, as he loves to get out there and see the world beyond what he knows.

All that time being lied to has made him overly cautious and distrustful of others, however. It takes quite some time to earn this Guardian’s trust. Actually, it’s very unlikely to earn his trust unless you prove yourself first. He may not be the happiest dragon, but think about it. Would you be so optimistic if you killed for a living at one point? For Evarado, he is kind of cynical and maybe a little sarcastic at times. He is quick to judge and even quicker to respond, so once he has an opinion, he’s likely going to stick to it.

This makes him seem rather stubborn, which isn’t a trait he lacks. Evarado can indeed be very stubborn when it comes to a matter he believes he knows a lot about. Not to say he’s overly confident or arrogant, but he can seem that way. His negative personality is not intentional, and it rarely shines through, but when it does, it’s a clear red flag to signal the other dragons to back up. There are times when Evarado’s loyalties are tested.

The only bond he would never even consider betraying is with that of Copperclaw. He likes to seem mysterious, but he’s really not. That’s just another one of the fronts he puts on for the other dragons. He’s definitely good at lying as well, which can be both a blessing and a curse.

Evarado prefers loud, social environments despite the fact that he himself is not so great at socializing. He loves a good thrill, as it gives him a little jolt deep in his marrow that reminds him of something he had long ago… Not that he recalls enough about his birth clan to place what that is.
