The Marching

Marching. Marching. Marching. His early memories all involved walking somewhere, for a reason he couldn't understand. Why hadn't he taken off not even once in his life? Why had nobody taught him how to do the thing dragons are best at? He had no answers, but growing up he became to be more and more of a sociopath, never interacting with anyone and always alone.

On his own choice, even when all grown up, he decided to not invest his time in forcing himself into something he was clearly not destined to do. So he resolved in doing what he was best at: marching. He walked miles every day, avoiding company at all cost, gaining the reputation of hermit and savage. The more they addressed him as such, the more he became like that. He snapped and snarled, stomped and roared until no one went near him anymore.

Having lost all bonds to his homeland, one day he simply kept walking in a straight line directly out of his clan's borders, into a wasteland that was unlike anything he had ever seen.
He enjoyed the isolation for a while, until he came across a blood-red Guardian dragoness. He would have avoided her, but she attacked him head down and they rolled together on the ground, tangled in a mortal embrace. Their size made it impossible for one of the two to overcome the other, so in the end they settled down and ended up finding a lot of common points. Incredibly, they bonded over their common hatred of their own species, and started travelling together, eventually becoming mates. She was the only one he felt could ever keep company to his dark heart.
