Biography

Bellios thought himself lucky when he found his charge only five days after he set out on The Search. The little nocturne hatchling was following a young pearlcatcher through the Everbloom Gardens. Bellios camped with them a few nights and learned that the pearlcatcher's name was Ellard and he was originally travelling to expand his knowledge on how elemental magic differed between the flights. The nocturne saw Ellard in the shadow territory and followed him all the way from the Tangled Wood, so he was going to find someone in Arboreus to take care of her.

Since Bellios's only destination was where his charge went, he followed them to Arboreus. He protected the nocturne from a bumble sting and even got injured himself, but she only had eyes for Ellard. Bellios figured he just had to wait until Ellard left them in Arboreus and then he'd introduce himself to the nocturne as her guardian.

Ellard didn't leave as soon as he said he would. He even gave the nocturne a name of her own after finding out she was introducing herself as the last clan member she'd spoken to since she didn't have one. Months go by and he and Zephina become mates and have hatchlings. Bellios can't bring himself to interrupt her happiness.

Four months have gone by and Bellios still hasn't told Zephina. All he can do now is guard her from the shadows and continue living under his half-dragon status. Every night he prays to the Glademother to have mercy and grant him a different charge.

Instead more torment struck as Ellard and Zephina decided to move to the Lightweaver's domain. There was no plausible excuse that would warrant Bellios following them, so he stayed behind. It was obvious something was troubling him after the first night, but by several days later he was a complete mess - shirking his duties and hiding from the clan.

On the fifth day he expected Zerius or Cera to appear and reprimand him, but instead it was their son Greer who stood in the entryway to Bellios's den. Greer's tragedy was whispered about throughout the clan; to lose a mate and hatchlings was bad enough, but his ward as well was too much.

"Having a ward isn't just a matter of pride," Greer began, "but you already know that." He held out a vial of blue liquid, "If it's still possible then make haste to reunite with it; otherwise you may as well drink this now and resign yourself to a life of dreams - the pain never goes away."

"But my friends..." Bellios winced at the physical pain he felt in his chest at the mere thought of never seeing Zephina again.

"Wouldn't want you to suffer." Greer took a deep breath and bellowed, "NOW GO! OR JOIN ME IN ETERNAL TORMENT!"

Bellios rushed outside and leapt into the air - choosing which direction to travel on sheer instinct. He had no plans beyond meeting up with her again, but already felt some relief.

It wasn't easy tailing Ellard and Zephina once outside of the Labryinth; Bellios never realized how exposed the rest of the world made him feel. Finally they made it to the Hewn City where Bellios could setup camp nearby in some ruins without being seen. There was a mighty storm raging outside, so a bit of shelter was also welcomed.

"Do you seek the temple of light? Or shelter from the storm?" A feminine voice asked.

Bellios turned around and was surprised to see a guardian standing so close.

"Come, I can show you the way to both." She turned and walked to an elaborate door that disappeared into the ground at her touch. "Inara has been waiting for you."

Bellios had never heard that name before. He was about to inquired about Inara, but forgot when he stepped through the entrance. "What is this place?"

"To some, an amazing archaeological discovery of a preserved underground city."

"And to you?" Bellios asked.

"Home."

Suddenly there were a multitude of voices that broke the silence. "Maiya - you're home!" "What took you so long?!" "Did you bring back gifts?" "How long are you staying?"

Maiya spread her wings and everyone fell silent. "We have a guest, how about we get him situated before I answer questions."

"I can see to him," a soft voice said, barely audible from the back of the crowd. The group parted to reveal a pale yellow female who seemed to shimmer as she walked. She reminded Bellios of morning's first light.

"Of course, he's in your're care then, Inara." Maiya gave Bellios a nudge and he began following the imperial away from everyone else to what appeared to be a small tent.

"I'm sure you have questions, but time is rather short; forgive me for being so direct." She held the tent open for him.

Bellios walked inside and was suprised that the tent covered a small opening to another cavern. Inside there were golden relics depicting the Lightweaver and some smaller reliefs of the other deities. a small pool of water had formed in the back and the largest statue of all sat on a small island in the water's center.

"Zaren! Zilla! He's here." Inara called out.

A male nocturne and female coatl came over to them. Both of them had coloring similar to Bellios and it made him feel a bit uneasy.

"The Lightweaver has heard your request and offers a solution to your ailment." Inara began.

"My request?" Bellios was confused at the whole situation and contemplated seeing if they'd let him leave.

"I do not know all the details, but there's a shadow hanging over you even here in this place of light. I presume the Lightweaver offers a solution to what ails you?"

Bellios tried to not let his surprise show, but wondered if it really possible to change his charge? "I am unable to be with my charge and asked the deities to change my focus.

"We three have been sent visions of a ceremony that will transfer a part of your essence to a new being. We do not know the consequences of this, only that the appearance of the hatching will indicate if we are successful or not. Zaren and Zilla are all set to join the Lightweaver during the next pilgrimage, so you have one day to decide."

Bellios the guardian chose to go through with the ritual to separate him from his charge. The ritual produced one hatchling in identical colors to Bellios, signaling it was a success. Bellios the nocturne came into being with the same compulsion to protect that the guardian had, but it seemed to be refocused to the temple he was born in. Guardian Bellios found that not only was his compulsion gone, but so too were any emotions he once felt. It's unsure what else may have been transferred to N. Bellios. After a year of existence, N. Bellios started to fade away until one day he was just gone.
