Pushing open the lacquered oak doors, you are greeted by the nostalgic scent of old parchment. Before you is a modest entryway with floating globes containing softly glowing lights. You can see doorways to several other rooms with book-lined shelves, and facing the entry is a large wooden desk covered in quills and inkwells, rolls of parchment, and leatherbound journals of varying size. Behind this desk sits a vibrant, bespectacled Pearlcatcher, hastily scribbling something. She looks up as she hears the doors close behind you, raising her brows and pushing her spectacles higher on her snout.

Achillea runs a section of the greater Library dedicated to subspecies of dragons found in the region of Light. She generally seems terse, but she is very helpful and always willing to discuss her collections. Like Nebula, Achillea rarely, if ever, leaves the Library. The two dragons get along exceptionally well, and both have modest accommodations in the upper reaches of the structure.

The glittering Pearlcatcher works with the Faded, who assist in transcribing, organizing, and reshelving, and the Collectors, who bring her relevant works from their travels.

Her Downy Fox Rat, Prince, can be found strolling through the stacks or basking in a window. He expects proper attention be paid by any dragon who enters the Library, as his silken fur won't pet itself.

The Altus were one of the first kinds of Pearlcatcher created by the Lightweaver. Gifted with honest spirits and independent minds, they served the Her loyally, dedicating themselves to defending the Sunbeam Ruins against threats from the Shade and rival flights. As time went on, however, the Altus began to question her judgement.

Despite their break with the Lightweaver, Altus Pearls retain their dedication to hoarding knowledge and defending the Sunbeam Ruins from the Shade, other flights, and Emperors. Most are convinced Sornieth is on the decline, possibly on the verge of a great cataclysm, and they are the only ones capable of preventing catastrophe.

Unlike most Pearlcatchers, Altus Pearls don't fear combat. One of the few times other dragons get to see them is when Light flight goes to war, and armies of Altus pearls arrive out of nowhere with powerful artifacts, strange magic, and deadly fighting abilities. All Altus clans practice specialized combat techniques meant for killing Emperors. In their view, Emperors, and therefore Imperials, are one of the greatest threats to Sornieth. Tolerant Altus Pearls are suspicious of Imperials. Extremists want them eliminated.

An Altus Pearl outside of an Altus clan is rare, and there is usually a special reason for them to leave their birth clan. Individuals are sometimes sent on missions across Sornieth, and they might decide never to return. Some may be assigned an important duty which requires them to stay in another clan.

Collectors are very somber dragons whose wings have been blessed by the Lightweaver herself so they may travel vast distances in the never ending search for knowledge and truth. Their only passion is expanding the horizons of their mind, and they pursue this end feverishly. With their unnaturally strong, glowing wings, Collectors soar across the lands in the hope of finding ancient relics or interviewing theorists. They often bring back as many treasures as they can carry- dusty tomes, cracked tablets with heiroglyphics of some dead language, faded portraits from another era. Librarians and scholars love the Collectors, because although they are mostly concerned with their own pursuit of knowledge, they are more than willing to show off what they've found on their latest excursion.

Because their wings are made strong with the Lightweaver's magic, Collectors tend to travel for extended periods of time gathering interesting items and tidbits along the way- some will disappear from their clan for months at a time before returning with a veritable mountain of artifacts. Collectors tend to be a bit morose concerning anything other than their pursuit of knowledge. They are also rather easily distracted by anything that looks shiny, old, or just interesting.

Although the Collectors generally only care about expanding their knowledge base, a rare few find mates. These mates are practically always other Collectors, because almost no one else can bear their wanderlust and fanatical raving about this moldy book or that chipped enameled vase.

Etherealights are born when Mirrorlight Scribes have nests that seem to be ailing, and place them in sun-touched pools of clear water, asking the Lighweaver for her blessing. At her bidding, the sunlight coalesces around the eggs and when they hatch, the dragons are mute and only partially on the material plain, but otherwise healthy. Often at dawn and dusk they appear ghostly and sometimes the light seems to pass through them or shimmer around them. Only Imperials and Pearlcatchers are thus born, as the Lighweaver's magic is strongest in them.

A supremely peaceful species, Etherealights cannot stomach being around conflict, let alone being involved in it. They are modest, shy creatures and although they cannot speak, Etherealights can impress their moods on other dragons to communicate. This effect is strongest and most vivid with other Etherealights and Mirrorlight Scribes.

Because Etherealights are Light magic embodied, they are blessed with powerful healing magics, and never hesitate to help those in need. Often they roam in pairs, keeping an eye out for weary or wounded travelers. These dragons have an uncanny ability to sense emotional wounds or turmoil, even from extreme distances, and are often drawn to them as moths to a flame- rather than being consumed, however, the Etherealights strive to overcome dark thoughts and comfort the disheartened. They seek to endow hope and serenity to the world.

Lore: These dragons are among the most ancient, and have dedicated their lives to carrying out the Lightweaver's bidding. Through continued exposure to the radiant sunlight across the Ruins, the Faded have become just that: their colors have dulled, bleached by the sun's rays during their long service. Most of the Faded began as defenders of the Sunbeam Ruins, but more and more are being sent out with peaceful missions as scribes, ambassadors, or messengers as they age. Their glittering spines serve as a reminder of their days as young warriors.

The most ancient of the Faded have lost so much of their color that one can almost see right through them- a fact that has convinced some that the Faded are actually spirits.

Habits/Personality: Faded dragons are typically very serious and alert. Those who have seen more battle in their younger days can be a bit frayed about the edges, and some of them suffer nightmares. All have excellent reflexes, and are quick to respond in any situation. Faded dragons excel when working as a group.

Diet/Hunting: Most Faded are carnivorous, and although they are ancient, they are superb hunters. These dragons are resourceful and can easily hunt alone, although they prefer to work as a team of 3-4.

Combat: Skilled in physical combat, these dragons typically don’t rely much on magic. If they do, it is usually a balanced mix of offensive and defensive spells.

Not as deep-dwelling as the Grim, the Hewn exemplify their native subregion: shadowed but still unarguably part of light. Their cheerful crystal scales give the impression that they are shining brightly at their core. Like Lantern Fae, however, they may wrap their dark wings around themselves for concealment in the shadows of the Hewn City or when they simply aren't feeling very "shiny" at the time.

They are the more elder of the exalted dragons, after serving Lightweaver for many years some say her magic imbeds into her helpers, and transforms them into a glowing shell, light emanating from deep within.

Although, puzzlingly, this effect only occurs with Light-born Pearlcatchers. Some say it's just Lightweaver's favoritism, and others say it's because they were born where light magic is the strongest, and it takes root deep within them.

Illuminated Pearls have a superiority complex similar to Mottled Suns, and tend to enjoy reflective surfaces in which to admire their glittering hides. What is less known is that they seek revelation through self- awareness. To many this comes off as conceit, and though they are prideful creatures, they honestly desire to know themselves fully so they can better understand their influence on the world around them. Many become philosophers, although very self-absorbed ones at that. Illuminated Pearls tend to surround themselves with glittering or shiny baubles, and many hoard Sacridite.

Although they have an arsenal of powerful Light magic at their disposal, Illuminated Pearls value themselves quite highly, and thus avoid combat if at all possible rather than risk damaging themselves.

Lantern Fae are helpful spirits who guide travelers who have lost their way. They dedicate themselves to the study of their surroundings, learning even the most labyrinthine of cavern by heart. The species is gifted with bio luminescence that radiates from their underbellies.

Though primitive Lantern Fae had crystiline wings as bright as their hearts, their chosen home of dark caves, ruins, swamps, and forests made this trait a detriment to their survival. Thus, over generations those once glittering wings turned dark and plain, allowing them to cloak themselves in order to hide their light from predators.

A Lantern fae lays flat against any surface perpendicular to the ground and folds its wings inward to mask its brightly colored body and glowing underbelly. Their preternatural sense of hearing coupled with their near perfect memory of their surroundings allows them to be aware of everything in their proximity as well as they could sense it with their eyes. When they sense a traveler or friend in distress and are sure it is safe to come out, they reveal their warm glow in order to light the way to safety.

All Prisma are ambassadors, advisors, and diplomats- mediating politics, delivering messages, keeping the peace. They will never participate in violence unless it is to preserve their own life. They are typically very honest, organized, and intelligent, and the leaders of the clans they serve often look to them for counsel. Prisma tend to be fairly private creatures who keep a small circle of friends, although they maintain good relations with with most and are well-liked by the majority of dragons they encounter.

Yellow range secondaries indicate the most prolific faction, Archetypal Prisma, though the range of their abilities is a bit narrower than their counterparts. These dragons are able to use wavelengths of sunlight to project their consciousness across great distances- provided the destination is also in sunlight. This kind of projection is used as a means of communication between Prisma, and occasionally between a Prisma and a non-Prisma (this requires the non-Prisma to have a natural sensitivity to Light magic), and is generally only attempted on clear weather days. Connected dragons are able to speak to one another as though they were standing next to each other, and Archetypal Prisma are also able to send images or memories across this connection. If the sunlight is dim or obscured when a Prisma is projected, the connection can become strenuous and painful, and is sometimes severed altogether, snapping the connected dragons back to their bodies in a most unpleasant manner. If the sun sets while a Prisma is projected, they may not be able to find their way back to their corporeal form and they become lost spirits. Archetypal Prisma can project themselves further than Pyro or Dusk Prisma, and can sense when they are being lied to when they are connected to another.

REDWOOD WARDEN
Variant

Sometimes, at the end of their lives, the great Redwoods of the Sunbeam Ruins do something extraordinary. With what remains of their life energy, the trees form eggs to be kept safe and warm within the root structure. As the tree dies, the egg is pushed up between the roots to ‘sprout’ from the soil into a Redwood Warden.

These dragons tend to the Redwoods, making sure they thrive. Their innate horticultural knowledge serves them well, but if they come across a tree that cannot be saved using natural means, they are able to revive it with their own specialized magic. This ability undoubtedly stems from their origins.

The Wardens do not lay any claim to the forests of the Sunbeam Ruins and seek only to maintain them. More often than not the Wardens choose to roam far and wide through the forests instead of settling in one location. They have an excellent sense of direction, and if you ever find yourself lost in the woods, a Warden can help you find your way.

They possess bark-like growths across their bodies, mimicking the texture of the trees they love and protect.

RUNECATCHER
Suncatcher Variant

Alias:
Status of Runes:

Corona's abilities involve the creation of solar flares and fluctuations of temperatures. These abilities often correspond to her emotional state, becoming increasingly powerful and less stable as her emotions become more extreme.

Eclipse has the ability to manipulate solar energy, which makes him the perfect counterpart to Corona. He brings focus to her power, and can act as a magnifying glass for her phototechnic flares. He is also capable of bending light to create illusions. One cannot always trust what is real and what is just a trick of the light when Eclipse is near.

Both Suncatchers are stronger when they have sunlight at their disposal, but they can use their powers to a lesser degree even at night.

Lore: Thought to have only been a fable, the “Sands of Time” subspecies was chanced upon during an excavation in the Lightweaver's domain. Found after millennia of being trapped within their own time-magic, the subspecies has flourished since their “reintroduction” to Sornieth.

Due to the breed's Lightweaver-essence roots, these Imperials react differently to time than normal dragons - they are able to manipulate their own time for a short period. There have been instances of these drakes manipulating clanmates' time, but the duration is surprisingly short and only if the two dragons are touching. Their source of magic varies from dragon to dragon, taking two different forms: ancient imbued runes that flow effortlessly along their body - or the equally-as-powerful capsule of sands at their beck and call.

Habits/Personality: Being re-introduced to the world has left these dragons curious and eager to learn about the history (and world) they have missed in their absence. They are stalwart examples of Light dragons, taking great care to collect or record all relics, history, and truths they come across. Lying to these dragons will not bode well. These dragons love to help others, but will rarely use their subspecies magic to do so unless there is a dire situation.

Combat: Sands of Time Imperials are more inclined to captivate and mesmerize their opponent into traps rather than fight tooth and claw. They highly prefer magic and spells, their imperial-lineage giving way to obsession on the practice and art of magic.

SUNSHOWER
Second Generation

It’s well-known that the weather is nearly always sunny in the Lightweaver’s domain. Even when it rains, the sun sometimes still manages to shine through the clouds. Dragons born during these sunshowers are brilliantly patterned with blues and yellows.

These lambent dragons have an affinity for water and are typically excellent swimmers. Many Sunshowers make careers out of diving or fishing, and most prefer to live close to a major source of water. Some collect shells or sea glass and they also tend to prefer aquatic familiars.

Sunshowers follow the diets of their respective breeds, but lean toward aquatic themed foods. For example, a Tundra Sunshower would prefer aquatic plants and a Fae Sunshower would prefer insects that live in or near water.

Lore: These dragons are the Lightweaver's own elite Scribes. They reside with her at the Beacon and record her observations. Additionally, they serve as an investigative force, looking into matters for the Lightweaver and uncovering the truth. Weavers are exceptionally discerning, and can always tell when they are being lied to- this makes them very valuable and very effective. Many clans request the Weavers' assistance, but the Lightweaver herself decides where their expertise is needed.

Habits/Personality: Keenly observant, Weavers tend to sit back and assess how things play out in a given situation. They tend to be quiet individuals- almost no one has heard a Weaver raise his voice- and although they are usually very even-tempered, the glare of a Weaver is extremely intimidating. They are excellent moderators in any debate, cooly listening to both sides and weighing in with very logical conclusions.

Diet/Hunting: Most Weavers prefer a diet of plants and insects, and do not derive pleasure from hunting. Even Wildclaw and Mirror Weavers generally follow a vegetarian lifestyle.

Combat: Weavers are a peaceful species. They will avoid conflict and confrontation if at all possible. If and when they are drawn into a combat situation, however, they rely heavily on defensive and evasive Light magic.
