They say that old soldiers never die, they just fade away.

This old soldier gives lie to that adage by refusing to fade away. Even when all of his former mates and all of his offspring have faded, either into the service of the gods or into time's inexorable march, still Roland remains.

But don't let the age-dulled scales and graying beard fool you; Roland can still hold his own against dragons a fraction his age. In fact, he could still teach some of those whippersnappers a thing or two about how it was done in the old days.

What Roland would much rather do with his time is sit in the sun and tell tales to the hatchlings about his glory days. Yes, he's one of those old gaffers. But he doesn't much care what the juvenile troublemakers say about him. He's earned every scar. His wisdom speaks for itself, and while he has no desire for leadership, he is happy to impart some to those who will listen.
