ALEPH
The Clan Scavenger
And I'm like a kid in a candy store,
taking all the taffy that I don't ask for

______The circumstances under which Aleph left his previous clan are a mystery to Moonkeep, although if the gossip down the grapevine is even half true they’re having a pretty rough go of it right now, so he seems to have dodged a bullet. How Aleph genuinely feels about all of this is anybody’s guess - he’s not much for talking about himself, all in all, although he has been vocal about the hoard of scavenged treasure he was forced to leave behind when he migrated. What qualifies as “treasure” to Aleph is rather broad though, so just how big of a cash windfall Moonkeep missed out on is debatable.

Since arriving, Aleph's channeled his zeal for scavenging into dredging Moonkeep's murky waters in pursuit of artifacts, and the things he finds range from mundane to unsettling: scissors and teacups and skeleton keys; rotted burlap dolls; cauldrons and jars and pottery; glass marbles and stone chess pieces; copper lanterns and stained glass window panes without frames; a single pair of spectacles; a set of silver wing cuffs and the particularly disgruntled pearlcatcher who was wearing them; bottles and bells and knives; a humming locket and a shattered mirror and an iron-bound chest that can't be opened.

At the insistence of the Nightmother the most mysterious of the treasures are handed over with great reluctance to Lars and Lyra, who between them have the combined knowledge of nearly one singular amateur cursebreaker and approximately a third of the competence. Many of the remaining objects could be bartered, but Aleph instead has taken to displaying them in the formerly neglected library, which nowadays more resembles a museum dedicated to the dead beneath Moonkeep. Aleph keeps dredging though, pulling up remnants of lives from a distant past with dedication bordering on the fanatic. With so much enthusiasm, it's only a matter of time before the Fort's self-appointed finder of lost things finds something genuinely impressive.

- Aleph wears his favourite things as jewelry. He clinks when he walks from all the bones, sticks, bottles, sacks of pebbles, pinecones, beastclan weapons, chains, bells, lamps, broken bits of jewelry...
- Touch-phobic. He doesn't freak out or anything, but makes it well known that he does not like physical contact by hissing at whomever gets within his personal space bubble. Dragons who actually touch him usually get smacked with tail/wing or kicked, sometimes hard enough to cause actual damage.
- Speaks with a hiss/lisp. It's pretty noticeable, but it's not so bad as to make him incomprehensible
- Former scavenger and merchant for Clan Goldwood in the Lightlands. In Moonkeep he's certainly a still a scavenger, and seems delighted by the challenge of dredging the swamp and the oddness of what he finds. He's not much of a merchant anymore, but he still can't resist a really good trade.
- He fishes up Psyeen one day and the clan is humorously unbothered by the fact that he pulled a thousand year old pearlcatcher bog mummy out from under a pier. Psy's real salty about it for a while tho
- The Nightmother is mildly disturbed by a lot of the weird stuff he's finding but is letting him keep at his dredging business with faith that he'll find the Starchild, which she knows is under Fort Moonkeep somewhere
- Thanks to Kirmon for giving this dude some solid lore and letting me chew it up
