Sealed Below
The Bastion was brought to the Clan of Singing Blood for a special and sacred purpose. The Queen was attempting to create a ritual that would allow her to summon her brother to her side. The Bastion was one of many vessels which were used to help test this ritual as it was being developed, and she became one of the very few successes.

A new soul was summoned into her body, supplanting her own. She has no recollection of this, and everything before then is dim and faded. The dragon she became was Susan, and Susan lived for a long time never realizing the truth behind how she came to be. It was only after the king's vessel failed catastrophically that she finally learned the truth.

Compass of Earth and Soul
Susan couldn't stand the thought of having stolen the life of another dragon. She went to the king to beg him to undo the magic which bound her and free the dragon who had been buried by her presence.

The king tried to convince her not to, for if she did she would leave behind her entire life, her mate, her newly hatched children, and her clan. She would not be swayed. "Those things will persist even if I am not here for them."

"You will break Peryite's heart." He cautioned. "There is a good chance you will never be able to return to us if you do this."
"If I do not return, then this was never my home, just as this is not my body. It will be up to you to guide these dragons to Light, in spite of your sister. Do you think you can handle that without me?"

Sovri chuckled. "That's not a promise I can make here. It would be better for everyone if you could make your way back to us."

The king eventually relented, and in secret away from his sister, fulfilled Susan's request, allowing her spirit to slip out of the vessel, then waiting, and hoping for the body's previous owner to awaken. Hoping that it wasn't for nothing.

Awakened
The first thing she saw when she woke were the pale, narrow eyes of the skydancer, Sovri. They were filled with sorrow and relief, but those flickers were brief and shifting. He smiled and lifted his head. Asked what she remembered.

So much of her history has long been forgotten. Even her name. The Bastion is what she has come to be known as. She is not even sure the value of what it is she has lost. It seems so distant and meaningless now that she has woken from what she is sure was an eternal sleep.

She learned bits and pieces as the days went on. Sovri didn't tell her everything all at once, but the skydancer stayed close to her for awhile, watching over her, but it was not out of any kindness, but some obligation that she did not understand.

Regrowth and Reclaimation
The pearl she kept did not feel like hers. Meditations upon it only made her feel more lost. The only time she did not feel this faint sensation of confusion is when she looked upon the two hatchlings which Susan had left behind. She had no concern for Peryite, and he no concern for her, but the two young pearlcatchers, one Immaculate and one Impure, felt like her own. In taking care of them she started to form a new identity for herself. She was to be a protector and teacher.

They were wonderful and difficult dragons, and she remained with the Clan of Singing Blood until they were grown and set to make their own way in the world. She felt that she too had grown alongside them, and when they left, so did she.
