A STAR REBORN Stars were never meant to be left alone. Desperation and determination made sure of that, Would dim our heavenly gleam. Pain, fire, anger. It was all the I felt as my body dropped into the unknown. She did this, so can I. I am just like her--just as powerful. She couldn’t just leave like this. The star that I once was started to fall away from me. What was I becoming? They all warned me to not follow my sister’s steps, but I had to. I couldn’t let her go. Especially not alone. Closing my eyes, eyes that started to grow as my body went through a burning transformation, I started to remember what had happened. As I fell, a star was reborn into a scaled beast. My mind wandered back.. |

So what was I supposed to do as my kin
Plunged down from the sky, A streak of heavenly flame coating her skin? I could not just watch her radiance ebb. |
|
My sister was magnificent. Always the brightest star in the sky. She was always looked up by the Earthlings. And in her shadow...was me. A shadow that was only seen on the darkest nights where my light was the brightest. I was known as the New Moon Star, where my power and my beauty was only seen to those that wish to look at the darkness of the sky. While my sister, in all her glory, was seen in the glorious light of the Full Moon. Then one day, she wasn’t. I watched in horror as my sister started to fall, her magick beginning to fade and fall from her. In a panic, and because my sister was glorious, I had to follow. I couldn’t let my sister go alone. I didn’t mean to do this--to follow to closely. Now, my body had begun to transform, pain engulfed me. “No! No! I want to go back! What is happening!” She trapped me! She trapped me. I struggled against the heat that surround. Scales, wings, talons. All appeared and became myself. My light faded as a fire erupted in me. A roar erupted from my mouth as agony and fear came forth. I was trapped--my sister had trapped me in a body I did not want. Like my sister, I was on Earth, two fallen stars forgotten as we joined the ranks of an Earthly body. Falling through a sky of static celestial That were never meant to move Never meant to shy and shrink from pure potential Never meant to confine possibility And as we fell, One and one and not the same anymore - I could tell - I wanted her to slow, “You came?” A familiar voice sounded from behind me. |
And through that starlit tapestry of regal flame I watched our threads separate And we, which once were the same, Became lost.
But as our hearts started to part ways,
I couldn’t bear to leave her And start a different phase So I fell after her, two streaking stars _______________________ In a matter of minutes, time that felt like an eternity, I had transformed into a Dragon that matched my star energy---a dark Dragon that shimmered in the light of the dim moon. Strength coursed through me; strength and anger. My gorgeou sister, a star I once looked up to, forced me to turn into a beast with dripping teeth and enormous power. And yet, I found myself still looking for my sister. I needed to find her. I needed to find my once shining star. Taking steps forward, my claws ticked against the rock under my pads. I looked longingly up at the sky above me, stars twinkled in a final goodbye. My sister and I, seemingly far apart from each other, were on our own now. I was determined to be new star--one that shone brightly on this Earthly plain. To come back, To stop the slowly growing chains That we once used to lack Of flesh, of blood, Of pulsing, resonant, beats of heart That which throb, and cover That once beautiful, twinkling part Played by us I turned around to see her; the beauty that I wanted to be. My sister. “Yes, I had to. You should never have gone alone.” |

But we no longer twist in light and luminescence do we Our bones click and clack along Shattered and stressed just to be No longer infinite No longer immortal No longer royal Just mortal And vulnerable. And now I can’t help thinking that You pulled me down here. Chained me to a form all the stars would laugh at. But test me with ridicule and words of hate, |
|
|
“I’m never alone, my dear sister. I have you.” That made me blink. I didn’t want to believe her. She couldn’t be serious? She actually thought I was worthy of her? Of the same power? “I have you, too.” I realized these words had a new meaning. We were all we had. Two Starborn Dragons, heading into the unknown. Heading into a new life. I would still follow you anywhere. You’re a half of me I would never relinquish, And to see us part would be rare. I could never bear that kind of anguish. |
