Zyfernon

"Hurts like the Shade itself clawed me... shadows choke that Serthis coward."

Though many of his kin fall prey to their urge to imitate, Zyfernon has trained these treacherous abilities practically from the egg. His partner and closest friend is the spiral Alcyonae, and as the strongest and most loyal members of the Horde, they split the duties of second-in-command. Zyfernon serves as trainer and enforcer, putting down infighting within the Hull and ensuring that Loquaesa's orders are carried out promptly and fully. Every warrior and guard within the Hull answers to him, even the temperamental Jynnajo. His fearsome wrath is usually reserved for the enemies of the Hull, but he will turn it on a miscreant Guard eagerly and without warning.

Though capable of holding a battle himself, when partnered with Loquaesa, Zyfernon will often mimic her motions, if he's quick enough to see them. In large-scale battles Zyfernon mimics her voice to broadcast her battle orders. Of all the dragons in the Hull, he is able to predict Loquaesa with the most accuracy. In battle, his demeanor mimics that of his Spiral trainer - random, twisting, brutally strong, and making use of his crushing weight and smothering wingspan to bring enemies down. His strength seems almost divine in origin.

At ease, Zyfernon is blase and relaxed - preferring to wrap himself in his wings and rest, or else eat. Zyfernon, unlike Alcyonae, is not a hoarder. His appetite is vast, but he is easily able to feed himself, and all the loot he collects is given to the hoard of the Hull. Zyfernon lives and breathes for the battlefield. There is nothing that will rouse him more quickly than Loquaesa's call to arms... nothing, save one particular eternal threat, of which the mere mention is enough to put Zyfernon on the prowl.


Once poisoned by a Serthis ambush, only Alcyonae's frantic actions kept him from dying, and his recuperation was long and painful. In defending him, his friend very nearly lost her eye, before Loquaesa could magic them close enough to safety. His armor is worn constantly and conceals a vicious scar: a permanent reminder of the near-mortal injury. In the early days of the Hull there was no alchemist, nor herbalist, nor true healer - the Hull made do with bandages and prayers to the Shadowbinder. It was enough to save his life, but for a time, Zyfernon was crippled.

When Yzmah became a true devotee of Baldwin, her first trips to tutorship required escort through the forest. Zyfernon, crippled, could not go, leaving Alcyonae and their trainer to attempt each journey themselves. Every time they came back injured, Zyfernon renewed his oaths of vengeance on the Serthis. They needed his strength, more than ever, especially in the early days of the Hull's Horde, but they'd taken his wings - may the brambles strangle them!

It was not hard for Yzmah to hear these furiously sworn oaths.

Yzmah returned on the eve of her first year's graduation with poor grades, but with a clouded cube crafted in a cauldron. It burned like fire in Zyfernon's belly, and seamed his broken flesh. He was still and forever slowed by the old wound, but his wings would spread, and his long shadow fell over the Hull once more. There was doubt in his restoration, in whether his wings would hold out, until Zyfernon hunted and slew an entire camp of Serthis that had ventured too close to the Hull for his liking. He brought back their scales as his own proudest trophies - the only trophies he keeps.

Anger is easy to mimic.
