 Vanna's origins are very unknown. She was wondering around The Abiding Boneyard, stumbling over rocks and bone when Ruby found her. Ruby watched the young baby wobble about for awhile, she believed the little one was a pearlcatcher but found it quite odd they didn't have a pearl. As Ruby quietly stepped forward, she noticed the baby couldn't see her. She stood there contemplating her thoughts but decided to snatch her up and run back to the clan.

It was found out that Vanna was born blind after being examined by Aumnupha who decided to give her the name. She was told it meant 'golden' in an ancient language. It was ultimately concluded that Vanna had somehow lost her pearl when she was roaming. She didn't quite understand anything about her pearl at the time, but she did feel a part of her was missing.
